Perched on the shores of the Canning River, at the water sports hot spot, Deepwater Point, is the largest and busiest Cafe in the Dome Cafe Group. We run an extensive cafe menu, every day from 6am till 9pm, are fully licensed and do this all in the most picturesque of surrounds of river, grass, walking trails, picnic tables and playgrounds.

The Business

More than just a well-known name, Dome Coffees is an established, professionally run hospitality business, the management team is local and has decades of experience of owning cafes, hotels and bars. This expertise is focused on investing in ways to allow our frontline managers spend their time working with people - not pushing around paper.

The Role

An Assistant Cafe Manager is a key member of the greater management team working closely with the Cafe Manager and Kitchen Manager. You would manage 5 shifts over a 7-day week.

Specifically, this means.

Managing the opening or closing routines of the café.

Leading the team, from the front - throughout the day.

Being versatile and able to help your team out in all stations, whilst ensuring guest service remains the focus for everyone.

Directing the team; coaching and training and giving praise and feedback in equal measures.

Maintaining standards of presentation, image, food and beverage products and guest service.

What started out as a specialty coffee roasting business in the mid-1980s has been lovingly nurtured into what we see today – a unique community café experience, known to everyone as Dôme.

Three founders – Phil May, Patria Jafferies and Phil Sexton – played a key role in getting the café business off the ground.

Before Dôme was born, Mr May was a triple jump Olympian in the 1970s, while Ms Jafferies and Mr Sexton were co-founders of the Matilda Bay Brewing Company in Australia. It was this small group of people and their passion that laid the early foundations which formed the Dôme brand.

When Phil May made the decision to move on from his sporting career, he bought this really beautiful French antique roaster in Melbourne and shipped it to Perth and started roasting. His business, Western Roast Coffee, started supplying Matilda Bay Brewery, where Patria worked and it was then that they dreamed up the idea of the Dôme coffee concept.

With Phil May cracking the very first roast on his old machine some 30 years ago, the first Dôme café then opened in 1991 in Cottesloe.
