About Us

Founded in 1916, RSL NSW is a member-based veterans' charity. Our purpose is to support veterans and their families through advocacy, and by connecting them to services that improve their wellbeing. We also foster connection through camaraderie, recreation and commemoration within local communities.

RSL NSW works closely with a network of sub-Branches across NSW and partner organisations to deliver support where it is needed most. RSL NSW does not operate clubs or poker machines, and RSL NSW and its sub-Branches are separate entities from RSL Clubs.

As part of our current Strategic Plan, we are focused on ensuring every veteran in NSW understands who we are, what we stand for, and how we can support them, delivering meaningful impact across the veteran community.

We are a values-driven organisation with a collaborative and continuous improvement mindset. Our focus is on creating positive outcomes for the veteran community, and we take pride in the impact of our work.

We're looking for an experienced governance professional who enjoys improving systems, developing practical policies and frameworks, and helping organisations operate effectively. This is a hands-on chance to play a key role in strengthening governance, compliance and policy across RSL NSW.

RSL NSW is a veteran-friendly employer and a recognised Veteran Employment Supporter. We value the skills and experience gained through military service and are committed to supporting veterans and members of the Defence community.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, you'll lead the ongoing development and continuous improvement of governance, compliance and policy frameworks across RSL NSW. Working closely with the Assistant Company Secretary, you'll strengthen governance practices through policy development, governance advice, committee support and compliance activities. You'll primarily focus on governance, compliance and policy, while supporting legal initiatives where appropriate.

In this role, you will:

- Lead the ongoing development and continuous improvement of governance, compliance and policy frameworks, with a solid focus on the organisation's policy suite.
- Draft, review and maintain policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.
- Provide practical governance and compliance advice to internal stakeholders.
- Support Board, committee and working group activities, helping to keep governance initiatives progressing.
- Coordinate compliance monitoring, assurance activities and governance reviews.
- Contribute to contract reviews and governance documentation where required.
- Develop governance guidance, training and awareness initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen governance systems, processes and reporting.

Who You Are You're an experienced governance professional who enjoys bringing structure and clarity to complex environments. You're naturally curious, enjoy asking questions and take the initiative to build relationships and seek out information. You enjoy improving processes, are willing to roll up your sleeves and are comfortable balancing strategic governance work with the practical tasks that keep an organisation running smoothly.

Just as importantly, you enjoy working with people as much as you enjoy working with governance documents, and you're comfortable facilitating discussions and collaborating across the organisation.

You will bring

- Experience in governance, compliance, policy, risk or assurance within a complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of governance principles, regulatory obligations and policy frameworks.
- Excellent written communication and document drafting skills.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- High levels of professionalism,

discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential matters.
- A proactive, adaptable approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute across a broad range of governance activities.

Experience working with constitutions, governance rules, administrative law, trust deeds or company secretariat functions will be highly regarded. A legal background or experience supporting legal work would also be advantageous but is not essential.

What We Offer

This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation with a proud history and meaningful purpose.

As part of a supportive and collaborative team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, build relationships across the organisation and help strengthen governance practices that support better decision-making and organisational success.

We offer a competitive salary, flexible hybrid working, additional leave benefits, recognition and rewards, wellbeing initiatives, and genuine opportunities to learn, grow and make a meaningful impact.

Salary packaging is available for eligible roles. As RSL NSW is not a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), the benefits differ from those offered by some not-for-profit organisations
