An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Mental Health Clinician (RPN4, OT4, SW4 or Psychologist Grade 3) to join the Merri-bek Community Team within Northern Health’s Mental Health Division.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital.

In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

About the Role





We are located centrally in Coburg – close to Public Transport and parking options.

The Merri-bek Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Merri-bek and Hume.

We are recruiting for a Senior Clinical Mental Health Mentor to support the mentoring and competency-building of clinical staff, in the earlier stages of their careers.

The Senior Clinical Mental Health Mentor provides leadership to other clinicians aimed at optimising the capacity of these clinicians to undertake skilled and effective clinical assessment, decision-making, care-planning and service-delivery activities that reflect the highest possible standards of good clinical practice.

The Senior Clinical Mental Health Mentor will provide intensive mentoring, coaching, line management and education for clinicians for the first 12 months of their employment with the team and runs the local orientation days for staff new to the community team.

The Senior Clinical Mental Health Mentor is also expected to deploy their expertise to assist broader community team functions, for example, occasional or a small amount of coverage of senior clinician roles, such as intake or interim case management responsibilities. Participation in Community Team service development, quality initiatives and research will also be required.

The role will involve providing additional disciple-based supervision arrangements to Community Team staff and students on placement.

To be successful in this role you will have:





- At least 5 years experience post qualification
- Passion about contributing positively to the lives of consumers with mental illness and their families
- Advanced skills in the provision of Psychiatric assessment and intervention for consumers with a mental illness
- Proven Leadership skills
- Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work autonomously
- Advanced Communication Skills and Interpersonal Skills
- Knowledge of the wider MH services in catchment area
- Previous experience working in community mental health in a public tertiary setting
