Relocation and visa support available for the right person The Mission

Build the brain and nervous system of next-generation semiconductor tooling.

Our client is building advanced manufacturing equipment using Localised Electrochemical Manufacturing, combining patterning and metallisation into a single tool.

This role sits across controls, electronics, automation software and the physical machine.

Not pure software.

Not generic PLC work.

Not plant maintenance.

Real machines. Real sensors. Real actuators. Real commissioning.

What You’ll Work On

- Design and implement control systems for advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment
- Create control architectures across motion, I/O, pneumatics, optical systems and machine automation
- Select and specify sensors, actuators, motors, drives, motion stages, I/O modules and controllers
- Develop PLC and machine-level control software, including function blocks, PID loops and state machines
- Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts
- Manage interfaces between control systems and software stack
- Commission, test and debug complex electromechanical systems
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and integration issues across multiple disciplines
- Develop machine safety systems in line with relevant standards
- Work closely with mechanical, software and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated tools
- Establish controls, electronics and automation standards for a scaling engineering team

What Matters Here

- 7+ years in mechatronics,

controls engineering, automation or similar
- Strong control system programming experience
- CODESYS preferred, but other PLC environments are fine
- Experience programming motion systems, digital and analog I/O, pneumatics and optical systems
- Familiarity with industrial protocols including EtherCAT, Modbus and OPC-UA
- Strong electrical component selection across I/O modules, motor drives, motion stages and related hardware
- Pneumatic component selection across regulators, solenoids, sensors and related hardware
- Sensor specification across pneumatic, presence, force and vision domains
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting complex electromechanical equipment
- Working CAD proficiency, enough to produce functional models without needing to be a CAD specialist
- Solid mechanical fluency, enough to integrate controls into the actual machine
- Explicit communication, strong initiative and practical cross-disciplinary problem-solving The Background That Fits

You may have worked across:

- Semiconductor manufacturing equipment
- Precision manufacturing machinery
- Robotics or industrial automation
- Motion control systems
- Optical systems or machine vision platforms
- Cleanroom or high-reliability equipment
- Advanced manufacturing tools

- Custom production machinery
- Complex electromechanical systems where commissioning pain is part of the job

Nice to Have

- PCB design experience, ideally KiCAD
- MATLAB or Simulink
- ISO 13849 or IEC 62443 exposure
- Startup or high-growth engineering experience
- Semiconductor equipment or fab tooling experience
- Experience setting controls and automation standards from scratch

Why This Role Is Different

Some controls roles sit miles away from the machine. This one does not. You’ll be close to the electronics, the motion, the pneumatics, the optical systems, the software interfaces and the commissioning problems that decide whether a tool actually works.

You won’t just wire up someone else’s design. You’ll shape the control architecture, make the component calls, debug the system and help define how our client builds smarter, more reliable semiconductor equipment. The Opportunity our client is taking a fundamentally different approach to semiconductor manufacturing.

Lower cost.

Lower energy use.

Lower emissions and waste.

High-speed, high-resolution metallisation in a single tool.

You’ll join early enough to shape the controls platform, the engineering standards and the way these machines move from breakthrough science into production reality.

Apply Now

If you’ve built and commissioned complex electromechanical equipment, and you want to apply that experience to next-generation semiconductor tooling, this is a rare chance to own the controls layer from architecture to stable operation.
