Step off the fortnightly processing treadmill for six months and spend your time designing controls, automating manual work, and lifting the maturity of a payroll function that hasn't changed in a decade.

A large complete group with operations across the state has just approved a payroll function overhaul. The function works, but finance has identified real scope to tighten controls, automate high-risk manual processes, and build the governance layer that supports growth.

You will design and implement quarterly reviews and audit programs, lead automation projects across all related systems, partner with finance and P&C; on EBA costing and IR analysis, and deliver payroll training across all sites.

The current payroll officer continues to run preparation & data entry, with final processing handled externally by Findex. You own the enhancement roadmap. The business is growing, has a continued pipeline of development, and while this starts as a six-month contract, there is genuine potential for permanent conversion or extension if both sides are happy.





This is a fixed-term contract with no guarantee beyond six months, and you will be working closely with a payroll officer who has held the role solo for ten years and knows every detail of the current process. Solid influencing and stakeholder skills matter here.

What you need

- Minimum five years in payroll with demonstrated experience in process improvement, system automation or implementation projects, and at least two years in a business partnering or analyst capacity.
- Proven ability to interpret Awards and Enterprise Agreements and design controls, checklists and audit programs to ensure compliance across a multi-site organisation.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capability, including financial modelling of pay rates, roster changes and EBA impacts.
