Focus of the Role
This is a rare opportunity to use your technical experience and strong communication skills to help build a new API-first, automation-first and AI-enabled security engineering capability at Telstra.
This is a new role in Security Engineering shaping how security services are designed, delivered and scaled.
You’ll build practical automation, APIs and platform patterns that reduce manual effort, improve consistency and help engineering teams focus on higher-value security work.
Working with Product Owners, Chapter Leaders and Security Engineering specialists, you’ll turn repeatable work into reusable services, self-service experiences and well-governed engineering patterns.

What you'll do
- Design, build and productionise APIs, integrations, automations and reusable engineering patterns across security platforms.
- Turn manual or ticket-driven processes into simpler, more consistent self-service experiences.
- Create orchestration that connects security platforms, workflow tools, approval paths and business processes.
- Explore safe, governed use of AI-assisted workflows to improve triage, routing, knowledge access and engineering productivity.
- Partner with SMEs to convert domain expertise into reusable services, documentation and patterns others can adopt.
About you
You’ll bring deep hands-on engineering experience and the judgement to build automation that is useful, secure and sustainable in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong experience building software, APIs, integrations, automations or internal platforms that improve how teams operate.
- Confident working with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, vendor API documentation and enterprise system integrations.
- Proficiency in Python or another contemporary scripting/programming language, with experience productionising solutions through Git, testing and CI/CD.
- Ability to design reusable services and automation patterns, not just one-off scripts.
- Sound engineering judgement for sensitive or high-risk workflows, including governance, approvals, access control, auditability and secure secrets handling.
- Experience in one or more of platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, service orchestration, enterprise SaaS automation, AI-assisted engineering workflows or security engineering.
