About Us

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (SHSAC) provides culturally appropriate primary healthcare services to nine remote Aboriginal communities in the Katherine region. We are community-driven, values-led, and committed to improving health outcomes through teamwork, respect, and service excellence.

About the Role

We are seeking a Health Promotion Officer to support and promote healthy lifestyle behaviours within the community by delivering culturally safe, community-led health promotion programs. Working closely with Community Based Workers – Health Promotion, Health Centre Managers, Outreach Primary Health Care Teams, and local stakeholders, you will engage with communities to identify health priorities, co-design initiatives, and deliver education and activities that improve health outcomes. This role is ideal for someone with strong community connections, cultural awareness, and a passion for empowering communities to lead healthier lives.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver culturally safe, community-led health promotion programs that encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours and improve community wellbeing.

Engage with community members and stakeholders to identify health priorities and co-design meaningful health promotion initiatives.

Collaborate with Health Centre staff, Outreach Primary Health Care Teams, and Community Based Workers to achieve shared health outcomes.

Build strong partnerships with schools, local organisations, and community groups to support health education and awareness.

Plan and deliver health promotion activities focusing on healthy eating, physical activity, mental health, smoking cessation, and other priority health topics.





Develop and adapt engaging health promotion resources that are culturally appropriate and responsive to local community needs.

Participate in continuous quality improvement, professional development, and regional health promotion initiatives to strengthen community impact.

Build respectful relationships and communicate effectively with community members while supporting Sunrise Health Service's strategic health objectives.

Basic Requirements

Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, with strong cultural knowledge and community connections.

Hold a current unrestricted manual driver's licence, OCHRE Card, National Criminal History Check, and Australian work rights.

Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Possess sound computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook.

Show strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver community health education activities and events.

Be reliable, motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality, culturally safe services within a community-focused environment.

Work collaboratively with health professionals, community organisations, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive health outcomes.

Be committed to ongoing learning, career development, and regular travel to remote communities as required.

Previous experience working in Aboriginal Health Clinics or remote community health settings, with an understanding of culturally safe healthcare practices.

Qualification in Health Promotion or relevant experience delivering community-based health initiatives, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
