POP Business is a Sydney based chartered accounting and advisory firm built for small business owners who want more than a set of accounts once a year. We handle the compliance well and quickly, then spend the time that frees up on the work that actually changes outcomes for clients: structuring, tax planning, profitability and cash flow.

Our client base spans SMEs, property investors, SMSF trustees and franchise operators. We run a modern, technology enabled stack (Xero, Xero Practice Manager, FYI Docs, Ignition) and we invest heavily in automation and AI to strip low value work out of the process. Clear communication, proactive advice and no jargon are how we operate.

Role Description

This is a full time Senior Business Services Accountant role based in Sydney CBD, with hybrid flexibility.

You will own a portfolio of small business clients end to end. Compliance is the foundation: financial statements, income tax returns, BAS and IAS across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals, plus review of bookkeeping and payroll prepared by our support team. The differentiator in this role is what sits on top of it. You will be expected to look past the numbers and raise the advisory conversations, including business structuring and restructures, Division 7A and trust distribution planning, CGT and small business concessions, year end tax planning, and margin and cash flow improvement.

Day to day you will deal directly with business owners, explain results in language they understand,



review and mentor junior accountants and offshore team members, and contribute to how we improve and automate our processes. You will report to the Partners and work closely with our client manager team.

If you want to stay purely in compliance production, this is not the right role. If you want to build genuine advisory capability and grow into a Manager this is the opportunity.

Qualifications

- Five or more years in an Australian public practice workplace, with strong technical skills across financial statements, income tax returns and BAS for SMEs
- Sound working knowledge of Australian tax and compliance, including Division 7A, trust distributions, CGT and small business concessions, GST and FBT fundamentals
- Confident dealing directly with business owners and able to translate financial results into practical commercial advice
- Advanced Xero skills, plus experience with practice management and workflow tools. Comfort with AI tools and a genuine interest in improving process is highly regarded
- Experience reviewing work and mentoring junior or offshore staff
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with a high standard of accuracy
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce, CA or CPA completed or well progressed
- SMSF exposure is desirable, not essential
- Able to manage competing deadlines in a hybrid environment and adapt as processes and technology evolve
