Credit and Collections Manager – Energy Locals
Full Time | Melbourne, VIC | Hybrid
Powering the future of urban communities
At Energy Locals, we’re helping reshape how energy works in modern Australian buildings. We partner with leading developers and owners corporations to deliver smarter, locally generated, carbon-free energy solutions to apartments, communities, and mixed-use developments.
We’re proudly Australian-owned and here to do energy differently – cheaper, cleaner, and simpler.
We’re trusted by some of the biggest names in the property sector, including Mirvac, Meriton and Aland.
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Credit and Collections Manager to lead a critical function across collections, hardship, vulnerable customer support, and payment recovery.
Reporting to the Head of Operations, you’ll lead the team responsible for delivering strong commercial outcomes while ensuring customers are treated fairly, respectfully, and in line with regulatory obligations.
This is a hands-on leadership role with broad scope. You’ll oversee debt recovery performance, manage sensitive customer support frameworks including hardship, family violence and vulnerability, and drive continuous improvement across systems, processes, and team capability.
You’ll play a key role in reducing bad debt, improving cash flow, lifting compliance maturity, and making sure our approach reflects both good operational discipline and good customer care.
What does a typical day look like?
- Leading the end-to-end credit and collections function
- Overseeing hardship, family violence and vulnerable customer processes to ensure appropriate, compliant, and compassionate support
- Managing collection strategies, aged debt performance and bad debt reduction initiatives
- Supporting the resolution of complex billing and payment disputes
- Coaching and developing a high-performing team to deliver strong outcomes and consistent customer treatment
- Monitoring performance, identifying trends, and using data to improve results
- Strengthening policies, controls and workflows to support compliance and efficiency
- Working closely with Operations, Finance, Customer Service, Compliance and Legal on complex matters and process improvement
- Managing external relationships with customers, partners and mercantile agencies where required
Who will you be working with?
You’ll join a team that puts customers at the centre of every decision. We’re hungry for growth and always looking for smarter, better ways to deliver impact. We stay commercially grounded, making decisions that work for both our customers and our business. We communicate clearly, so people know what matters and where we’re headed. Above all, we put teamwork first – backing each other, sharing wins, and solving problems together.
Working with us
At Energy Locals, we support flexible ways of working and a collaborative team culture, helping our people stay connected, do their best work, and grow with the changing needs of the business.
We offer:
- Hybrid working - with a city office on Flinders Street, right next to the station, and flexibility to work from home on agreed days
- Flexible ways of working - we support balance, autonomy and the ability to do your best work
- Leave that supports balance - including a dedicated wellbeing leave day to help you recharge, plus purchased leave options for extra flexibility when you need it
- A connected team culture - with social and team opportunities to build relationships, celebrate wins and stay connected
- Room to make an impact - we’re growing, so your ideas, ownership and improvements can genuinely shape how we work
About you
You’re an experienced people leader with a solid background in credit and collections, ideally in energy, utilities, or another regulated environment.
You know this function isn’t just about recovery. It’s about balancing risk, compliance, customer care, and commercial outcomes. You’re confident handling sensitive and complex situations, including customers experiencing financial hardship, family violence, or other forms of vulnerability.
You bring sound judgment, strong operational discipline, and a practical mindset. You know how to improve performance, lift standards, and build a team that can manage tough conversations with empathy and professionalism.
What you’ll bring
- Proven leadership experience in credit and collections
- Strong understanding of debt recovery, credit risk and payment management
- Experience managing or overseeing hardship, family violence, and vulnerable customer processes
- Strong knowledge of regulatory obligations and customer treatment requirements in a regulated environment
- Experience in energy, utilities or a similar industry will be highly regarded
- A track record of improving collections performance, reducing bad debt and strengthening processes
- Strong dispute resolution and stakeholder management skills
- Experience coaching and developing teams
- Strong analytical capability and attention to detail
- Experience with billing and collections systems, and solid Excel skills
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work cross-functional
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to lead an important function in a business challenging the traditional energy model.
You’ll join a growing company with a clear purpose, work alongside a collaborative leadership team, and have the chance to shape how we support customers while improving business performance.
If you’re looking for a role where you can combine leadership, operational improvement, compliance, and customer care, we’d love to hear from you.
