Sunstone Advisory is supporting the Royal Australian Air Force's Future Air C3 Program and is seeking experienced engineering specialists across Communications & Network Integration and Radar / Sensing domains to support the delivery of Australia's Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) capability.

These opportunities sit within Air Force Headquarters, contributing to the design, development, integration and sustainment of complex networked systems central to major Air Force capability projects.

Duration: Contract commencing 31 August 2026 through to 30 June 2027, with possible extension options.

Location: Positions are on-site in Canberra.

Candidates must be an Australian Citizen and hold a current AGSVA security clearance – minimum Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) to commence work in these roles.

Available Roles

We are seeking experienced professionals across two specialist engineering disciplines:

Communications & Data Network Integration Engineer (IAMD C2) – NV1 Clearance

Provide specialist systems engineering and technical support for the integration and interoperability of Integrated Air and Missile Defence Command and Control (IAMD C2) capabilities, within a joint system-of-systems setting.

Key focus areas:

- Communications, data network, bearer and system integration development
- Requirements analysis, system design and architecture for IAMD C2 networks
- Tactical Data Links and Defence networks engineering and technical support
- System-of-systems integration across air, land and sea (e.g. GBAD) domains
- Stakeholder engagement across Government and industry

Ideal background:

- Level 3 / Advanced Practitioner in Communications Network Engineering
- Systems engineering on complex, networked Defence capabilities
- Experience with C2 systems, Combat Management Systems, Tactical Data Links and interoperability

Radar / Sensing Systems Engineer (HF & Microwave) – NV1 Clearance Provide specialist radar systems expertise (HF and Microwave)



supporting IAMD sensing capabilities across numerous Air Force projects.

Key focus areas:

- HF and/or Microwave radar capability and concept development
- Requirements analysis and system design for sensor integration into the IAMD architecture
- Trade studies, design reviews and technical assessments to mature and de-risk sensor options
- Multi-domain sensing, track correlation and OTHR sustainment
- Engagement with Force Integration & Force Design Divisions and DSTG

Ideal background:

- Approximately six years' experience with HF and Microwave radar systems
- Level 3 / Advanced Practitioner in Radar Systems Engineering
- Development of Defence capability documentation within the ADF Capability Framework
- Desirable – sensor signal processing, transmitter/receiver and antenna design, EO/IR sensors, RF propagation and EMC
- Desirable – defence communications, data links and GNSS integration on Air Defence, IAMD or Air Surveillance programmes
