The Information Services branch delivers the secure, reliable, specialised digital services that support the AER in delivering trusted outcomes for Australian energy consumers.

The branch is responsible for technology program planning and delivery, project management, development and operation of our specialised software, data warehouse and analytics platforms and services, technology and data service and support, information management and cyber security.

Our people work collaboratively across the organisation to drive continuous improvement, deliver high-quality digital services, and ensure our technology remains a trusted enabler for the AER. By delivering and maintaining cutting-edge technology solutions and strengthening our organisational data capabilities the branch enables data-driven, informed decision-making which supports the AER to respond to the evolving needs of Australia’s complex energy sector.

The key duties of the position include:

- Develop, maintain and execute test plans, test cases and test scripts across functional, integration, regression, API, backend, data and reporting components.
- Apply established testing frameworks, procedures and quality assurance practices, including manual and automated testing where appropriate, to ensure changes are tested effectively before deployment.
- Analyse business requirements, technical specifications and user stories to identify test conditions, risks, dependencies, coverage gaps and traceability requirements.
- Validate data ingestion, transformation, integrity, business rules, calculations and reporting outputs across ETL pipelines, backend data stores, SSAS Tabular models, Power BI dashboards and paginated reports, using SQL and relevant tools where required.
- Support testing across the software delivery lifecycle, including requirements validation, System Testing, SIT, Regression, UAT, operational testing and release readiness, while ensuring agreed changes do not compromise data integrity, system quality,



business functionality or service stability.
- Support business readiness by assisting with UAT planning, execution, evidence capture, stakeholder sign-off, test status reporting and escalation of risks and issues based on test outcomes.
- Analyse, document and track defects, including severity, priority, ownership and resolution status, and liaise with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, SMEs, Senior Test Analysts and business stakeholders to investigate and resolve issues.
- Prepare and maintain test artefacts, document business processes and testing procedures in line with organisational standards and industry best practice, and work independently to manage competing priorities, meet delivery timelines, maintain accurate and traceable test evidence, and contribute to a collaborative quality culture.

Getting to know the Australian Energy Regulator The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) works to make energy consumers better off, now and in the future. We focus on ensuring a secure, reliable and affordable energy future for Australia as it transitions to net zero emissions. We regulate electricity networks and covered gas pipelines, in all jurisdictions except Western Australia. We set the amount of revenue that network businesses can recover from customers for using these networks. From 1 July 2026, the AER structurally separated from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and transitioned into a standalone non-corporate Commonwealth entity with its own accountable authority, staff and budgetary control. The separation of the AER from the ACCC is a significant regulatory reform aimed at improving the governance and operational autonomy of the AER.
