We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and flexible Accounts Payable Assistant to join our Finance team on a casual basis at our Darwin office, with a genuine opportunity to grow into full-time hours or an expanded role as our business grows.
This is a hands-on, office-based role focused on the day-to-day processing of bills through our accounting systems. You will work closely with the Accounts Payable Officer, ensuring bills are correctly processed from receipt through to payment. Beyond accounts payable, you'll have the chance to broaden your skills into accounts receivable, payroll, and HR support as your capability grows with us — and if you have any hands‑on IT experience, that's a genuine bonus, as down the track we'll need help setting up accounting software for new clients.
We're most interested in someone flexible, reliable, and capable of operating seamlessly in accounts payable from day one, who is also open to learning and taking on current responsibilities as the role evolves.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Accounts Payable Assistant will support the Accounts Payable Officer by:
Reviewing bills in the accounting systems to ensure they are correctly entered and properly set up
Managing the end-to-end processing of bills from receipt through to payment within the accounting systems
Assisting with preparing bills for payment, including adding them to payment plans or batches
Following up on any bill discrepancies or queries with vendors (as directed)
Maintaining organised accounts payable records and filing
Supporting basic month-end reconciliation tasks as required
Providing general administrative support to the Finance team
Over time, assisting with accounts receivable,
payroll, and HR-related tasks as training is provided
Potentially supporting the setup of accounting software for new clients, if you have an IT background (not essential)
What We’re Looking For
Previous Accounts Payable or bookkeeping experience within a rapid-paced environment
Flexibility and willingness to learn new areas of the business, including accounts receivable, payroll, and HR
Excellent computer skills and a strong ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple software platforms and accounting systems
Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
Experience with Xero (or similar cloud accounting software) will be highly regarded
Comfortable reviewing bills, performing reconciliations, and assisting with payment processing
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional phone manner
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small, supportive team
Reliable, proactive, and able to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
Any hands‑on IT experience is a bonus, though not essential
Australian work rights are required for this position
