About the role
As Peer Community Outreach Worker, you’ll draw from your experience of mental illness in order to assist participants, their families, clinicians and the community better understand the participant perspective and to improve outcomes for participants.
Key responsibilities
- Effectively holding safe & purposeful storytelling with people who access services to connect, support and build reciprocity via mutual understanding, trust and shared experience
- Participate in co-reflection, peer-based supervision and community of practice
- Conduct regular face to face support visits to offer support around any mental health and community access issues
- Provide direct practical support to participants to attain the skills
- Promote and ensure the integrity of indigenous psychosocial rehabilitation services
- Participate in service review and development activities, including audits .
Qualifications and essential Requirements
- Lived experience of mental health issues and recovery, either as a person with mental health issues or in a caring role.
- Completion of the Certi 4 in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work or Community Services, or equivalent practical experience working in a lived experience role, or willingness to undertake study towards qualification
- Experience in working in the mental health sector.
- Capability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
- Current valid Driver’s License and the ability to undertake travel for the role.
- Current Working With Vulnerable Persons’ Check, Right to Work within Australia and NDIS Workers Screening check
- Current Police Check (within the last 12months)
