Our research spans a broad spectrum of critical healthcare challenges. Our diverse research teams are advancing work in areas such as genomics, immunogens and drug hypersensitivity.

Your new role

This position will enable efficient access for Murdoch researchers to world-class facilities and expertise and support a sustainable investment platform to ensure future provision for existing technology and investment in emerging new technologies so that Murdoch research can remain at the forefront of scientific discovery.

The Senior Programmer leads the Information Systems Development and supports the laboratory's proprietary Murdoch application systems.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

- Design, develop, and maintain software to required standards.
- Represent software development in senior meetings.
- Oversee requirements and design for all large projects.
- Develop and maintain software development processes.
- Ensure software development is compliant with laboratory accreditation and software development best practice.
- Lead the progress of products through the full development cycle from design to delivery.
- Collect requirements from in-house clients.
- Develop system tests to validate the functioning of new and existing software.




- Prepare documentation to Institute standards.
- Provide a high level of expertise in technical guidance, training, and work direction to team members.
- Develop and maintain the appropriate skills and knowledge to use, review and improve the systems and processes that are used within the group

What you'll need to succeed

Essential

- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field as well as at least four years' subsequent experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.
- Well-developed object-oriented programming skills (knowledge of C# and .Net environment preferred).
- Experience in database development (MS SQL preferred).
- Experience in MS Windows application development.
- Strong problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn recent skills as required.
- Experience in using bioinformatics software.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to interpret client software development needs and deliver quality software solutions.
- Ability to interpret and communicate technical information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work as part of a team and manage your own workload, working within deadlines (flexible working hours may be required).

Desirable

- Basic knowledge in genomics field.
- Web development experience.
- System administration skills
- Good organisation and communication skills.
