Role Summary
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be contributing to the development of an exciting new project in our pipeline. This role builds, tests, and optimises game features, ensuring an engaging and smooth gameplay experience. This is a 12-month contract role focused on exploring new development workflows with a smaller development team, using tools to work smarter without compromising quality and creative outcomes.
Role Responsibilities
- Game Development: Design, architect, and implement gameplay features and tools within Unity, leveraging modern AI-assisted development tools to maximise productivity and quality.
- Bug Fixing: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs and performance issues to ensure a seamless player experience.
- Collaboration: Work closely with all disciplines (including Production, Design, Art, QA) to integrate game assets and features, ensuring alignment with the game's vision and goals.
- Planning: Actively participate in production processes for planning and tracking tasks. Design and architect technical solutions for the broader team to implement.
- Mentor: Work with the engineering team to assist in design and implementation, and champion recent ways of working, including effective use of AI tools in the development workflow.
- Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to best practices and Unity coding standards.
- Testing and Optimization:
Drive testing and optimisation efforts to enhance game performance and stability across target platforms.
- Learning and Growth: Continuously learn, apply, and share new technologies (particularly emerging AI development tools) to improve your own skills and contribute to the team's success.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of C# and Unity engine.
- Strong understanding of 3D mathematics and their application in games.
- A willingness to work across all areas of game development.
- Experience identifying and resolving Unity performance issues related to memory management, garbage collection, object pooling, and runtime content management using systems such as Addressables.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in debugging and optimising code.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment, with strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
- A genuine interest in video games and a solid understanding of game mechanics and player engagement.
Bonus Points
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience optimising games for mobile hardware.
- High level of experience in one or more key game development areas (Physics, AI/ML gameplay systems, Networking, Online backend).
