Eyes Optometrists
Melbourne
Some roles are about dispensing glasses. This role is about helping clients feel confident, cared for and well styled.
At Eyes Optometrists, great dispensing is about more than frames and lenses. It’s about understanding each client’s vision needs, lifestyle and personal style, then guiding them with care, technical knowledge and genuine attention to detail.
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Optical Dispenser / Team Leader to join our Richmond practice in a senior role that combines client care, premium eyewear, team support and day-to-day practice leadership.
About Eyes Optometrists
Eyes Optometrists is a long-established independent practice known for personalised eye care, premium eyewear and genuine client relationships.
For more than 25 years, we’ve helped clients choose eyewear that supports their vision, suits their lifestyle and reflects their individual style. Unlike big-box optical retailers, our practice is built on trust, care, detail and personal service.
Founded by Paul Donaldson, Eyes Optometrists brings a deeply personal understanding of vision care to every client experience, combining clinical knowledge, empathy, style and attention to detail.
You’ll work with premium eyewear, quality lenses and a team that takes pride in helping clients look, see and feel their best.
About the role
This role suits an experienced Optical Dispenser who is ready to step into more responsibility, supporting clients, guiding the team and helping keep the practice running smoothly.
As the senior person on the floor, you’ll help set the tone for service, presentation and follow-through. You’ll lead by example, support the team in day-to-day priorities, and help ensure the Eyes experience is delivered consistently across dispensing, client care, store presentation and practice flow.
This includes:
- Providing confident optical dispensing and personalised eyewear recommendations.
- Assisting with more detailed frame,
lens and lifestyle-based dispensing conversations.
- Helping clients choose frames and lenses that suit their prescription, lifestyle and personal style.
- Building strong client relationships and long-term loyalty.
- Supporting the team day-to-day by guiding priorities, modelling service standards and helping others follow through.
- Helping maintain smooth practice flow across appointments, orders, enquiries, collections and adjustments.
- Keeping an eye on presentation, stock awareness, merchandising and the overall client experience.
- Contributing to window displays, local marketing and social media activity.
- Helping maintain strong commercial standards through service, product knowledge, accuracy and care.
- Supporting agreed practice priorities and helping turn good ideas into practical action.
You may already be working in a senior optical role, or you may be an experienced Optical Dispenser ready to step into more responsibility.
You’ll bring
- Optical dispensing experience and confidence advising on frames, lenses and sunglasses.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, warmly and professionally face-to-face and over the phone.
- A high level of service integrity, showing genuine care, patience and problem-solving in every client interaction.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when working with prescriptions, orders, appointments and enquiries.
- Technical curiosity, with a commitment to staying up to date with developments in frames, lenses, optical technology and eyewear trends.
- Strong sales ability,
with the confidence to recommend premium eyewear and lens solutions while keeping each client’s needs front and centre.
- Adaptability and good judgement, with the ability to read the situation, adjust your approach and make clients feel comfortable.
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to guide, support and positively influence others.
- Maturity, reliability and accountability, with the ability to lead by example, follow through on agreed priorities, support the team, and understand how great client care, solid presentation and commercial awareness work together in a successful practice.
- Self-motivation and initiative, with a willingness to contribute proactively to the smooth running and ongoing success of the practice.
You’ll suit this role if you care about doing things properly, technically, personally and professionally, and you enjoy creating an experience where clients feel understood, respected and well looked after.
Experience in premium optical, boutique retail, luxury retail or a customer-focused health environment will be highly regarded.
Work hours
Tuesday to Friday: 9:30am to 6:00pm
Saturday: 9:30am to 3:00pm
Closed Sundays and Mondays. No late nights.
The benefits
- A respected independent practice with loyal clients and a strong local reputation
- A senior role where your experience, judgement and ideas are valued
- Premium eyewear, quality lenses and a stylish practice environment
- A supportive, stable team with strong tenure
- Ongoing learning and professional development
- Competitive salary package with bonus and incentive opportunities
- Work/life balance in a role that doesn’t come home with you
