The opportunity

This role sits within the University’s Mobile and Portal Development team, responsible for building, enhancing and supporting web and mobile applications used across the University.

You’ll work across the full software development lifecycle, taking business and technical requirements through analysis, solution design, development, testing and implementation. Alongside delivering new applications and functionality, you’ll help maintain and improve an established portfolio of digital platforms, resolving production issues and ensuring solutions remain reliable, secure and supportable.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll lead technical delivery, guide other developers and help build capability through coaching and knowledge sharing. You’ll also drive improvements to development standards, technologies and ways of working.

What you’ll do

- Analyse requirements and design, develop, test and maintain web and mobile applications,

APIs and integrations.
- Translate business and technical requirements into practical, maintainable and supportable software solutions.
- Investigate complex application and production issues, identify root causes and implement effective fixes.
- Contribute to solution design decisions in consultation with developers, business analysts, architects and other technical specialists.
- Support existing applications through maintenance, optimisation, troubleshooting and production support.
- Participate in estimation, planning, development, testing and implementation activities across the software development lifecycle.
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including solution designs, programming specifications, testing records and support information.
- Provide technical advice to stakeholders and colleagues regarding existing applications, emerging requirements and development approaches.
- Identify opportunities to improve application performance, security, code quality and development practices.
- Share knowledge and contribute to consistent development standards and ways of working across the team.

What we’re looking for

- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting web and mobile applications.
- Strong hands‑on experience with modern frontend and backend technologies, including React, React Native, TypeScript, and Node.js.
- Experience implementing caching strategies to improve application performance, including backend caching solutions (e.g. AWS ElastiCache) and frontend data‑fetching/caching libraries (e.g. React Query).
- Experience with modern frontend styling and design frameworks such as Tailwind CSS.
- Experience developing and operating applications within a contemporary cloud environment, preferably AWS.
- Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs, integrations, and serverless architectures.

- Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases, such as SQL Server, DynamoDB, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
- Experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions using technologies such as Okta, OAuth, or similar identity management platforms.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including source control, code reviews, debugging, release management and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non‑technical teams.

What’s in it for you?

- 17% superannuation to support your financial future
- Generous parental leave entitlements
- Salary packaging options
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- Career development and learning opportunities
- Health and wellbeing programs, including Fitness Passport
- Access to a vibrant, globally recognised university community
