The Road Maintenance team is responsible for delivering services that keep our roads, drains and streets safe, functional and well maintained. Services include road maintenance, gravel roads, drainage, footpaths, litter collection, linemarking and street sweeping, with a strong focus on safety, service delivery and value for money.

As the Principal Engineer – Road Maintenance Delivery, you will lead supervisors, engineers and operational staff while acting as the key link between senior management and frontline service delivery. This is a highly autonomous role requiring sound judgement, accountability and the ability to independently deliver operational, technical, financial and people management outcomes.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering maintenance services and works programs, managing contracts and budgets, leading organisational change, resolving complex operational issues and ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with community expectations.

Position Responsibilities include:

- Lead supervisors, engineers and operational staff to deliver high quality maintenance services.
- Manage the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of road maintenance services and associated works.
- Provide technical leadership and lead the resolution of complex operational, technical and customer issues.
- Manage contracts, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
- Develop solid relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors and external agencies.
- Drive a strong safety culture through visible leadership and proactive risk management.
- Prepare reports, recommendations and business cases to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

- The ability to independently manage competing operational, technical and financial priorities with minimal supervision.
- A proactive approach to identifying issues, managing risks and driving matters through to completion.

Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (Queensland) under the Professional Engineers Act is mandatory
- RPEQ registration, or eligibility to obtain registration.
- Current Queensland Class C Driver Licence
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Ability to successfully complete all employment related background checks, including National Police Check, qualification verification, reference checks and working rights verification.
- Demonstrated experience in road maintenance, road asset management or civil infrastructure delivery.
- Demonstrated experience leading supervisors, technical staff and contractors to deliver operational outcomes.
- Robust experience in financial management, forecasting and contract administration.
