About Centre for Appropriate Technology (CfAT)

Centre for Appropriate Technology (CfAT) is an Aboriginal-controlled not-for-profit organisation based in Alice Springs, delivering creative technology, infrastructure, training, and workforce development solutions that create positive outcomes for communities across Australia.

Through CfAT Training, our Registered Training Organisation (RTO 0857), we deliver practical, industry-focused training that builds skills, capability, and employment pathways, with a strong focus on supporting remote and regional communities.

We are seeking an experienced Civil Trainer and Assessor to join our team and contribute to delivering quality training outcomes for our learners.

About the Role

The Civil Trainer and Assessor will be responsible for delivering engaging, practical, and compliant training and assessment across civil construction qualifications and units of competency.

Working with a diverse range of learners, including participants from remote communities, you will use your industry experience and training expertise to support learners in developing the skills, confidence, and knowledge required for employment pathways within the civil construction sector.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging theory and practical training for civil construction qualifications and competencies
- Conduct fair, valid, and reliable assessments in accordance with RTO requirements
- Provide mentoring and support to learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds
- Facilitate practical training activities in workplace and simulated environments
- Maintain accurate training, assessment, and compliance documentation




- Contribute to continuous improvement of training resources and delivery practices
- Maintain current industry knowledge and vocational competency

About You

- Significant experience working in the civil construction industry
- Strong practical knowledge of civil works, plant operations, and infrastructure projects
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent)
- Current vocational competency relevant to the units being delivered
- Experience delivering and assessing nationally recognised training
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage learners from diverse backgrounds
- A commitment to workplace safety, quality training outcomes, and learner success
- Experience delivering training in remote or regional communities
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners
- Current industry tickets, licences, or operator competencies
- Experience within an RTO environment
- Knowledge of the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (RII)
