About the role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Family Practitioner to join the Mackillop Family Services - Child and Family Services Team.

Guided by the Team Leader, the Family Practitioner will collaborate with the Family Support Worker to form trusted working relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Together, they will develop family support plans to inform interventions and services to enhance family functioning and capacity. The focus will be on keeping children safe and families together through a child-centred, strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally affirming approach.

What you'll be doing

Work collaboratively with the Family Support Worker to develop family support plans that provide early intervention that is effective culturally affirming and addresses the identified needs for families.

Perform outreach supports to meet the needs of families and maintain effective communication to families and other team members.

The Family Practitioner duties include direct support to families, children and young people and strong ongoing liaison with collaborating agencies including maintaining an effective working relationship with the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Supported by the Team Leader ensure services, programs and supports are in line with program objectives.

Build and maintain stakeholder relationships to support referral pathways to address the needs of clients.

Maintain case notes and other reporting requirements.

What we're looking for

Qualifications in related field – Child and Family, Community Services, Social Work, minimum certificate 3 and above or working towards.

2 years of case management experience with families who have experienced trauma or in a similar field.

Well-developed knowledge of, and contemporary experience in,



working with clients experiencing or at risk of experiencing FDV and relevant management strategies.

Have experience in child protection, family services, or childhood development.

An understanding of attachment, trauma theories a child-centred approach and resilience.

Knowledge of the social determinants of health (environment, economic and social inequalities) that have a profound impact on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Demonstrated ability to use culturally sensitive ways to ensure improved client access to DDHS and/or other health services.

Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.

High level of personal resilience and flexibility with the ability to deal with challenging situations.

Demonstrated computer skills, especially in the use of client information systems or similar.

Experience working within an ACCO/ACCHO.

Experience in RAMF, Protected and Together and understanding related government strategies and frameworks.
