Support engineering teaching and research by maintaining laboratories, equipment and workshops while ensuring safe, efficient practical learning.

About the Position

As a Technical Officer – Engineering, you will provide hands-on technical support across engineering laboratories and workshops, primarily in Electrical Engineering while assisting Civil and Mechanical Engineering as required. You will ensure equipment, facilities and resources are safe, well-maintained and ready for teaching, research and practical activities, while supporting students and academic staff with technical guidance.

You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, managing inventory and procurement, ensuring WHS compliance, conducting routine maintenance and minor repairs, and supporting the delivery of practical learning. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering facilities, collaborate with academic staff, and at Level 5, provide advanced technical expertise, lead safety documentation, and support the planning and commissioning of new equipment.

About You To be successful, you will require:

- Relevant trade or technical qualification in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with experience in engineering workshops or laboratories.
- Experience operating, maintaining and repairing engineering workshop equipment, machinery and tools.
- Ability to provide technical support and guidance to staff, students and researchers in a practical learning environment.
- Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, including risk assessments and safe work practices.
- Strong organisational skills with experience in inventory management, procurement and maintaining accurate records.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to the effective operation of shared engineering facilities.

Additional Criteria (Level 5)
- Experience leading the development and maintenance of safety documentation, audits and standard operating procedures.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation and policies, with the ability to ensure compliance and support governance requirements.
- Experience supporting the planning,



procurement and commissioning of recent equipment and providing advanced technical advice on engineering operations and safety.
- Commitment to the University’s values.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at Professional Level 4 or Professional Level 5. The base salary will be in the range of $70,037 – $87,716 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $81,943- $102,627 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
