The Opportunity
We're looking for amid-level Software Engineer (around 4-5 years' experience) to join the SecoraGarage team delivering a complex project for an oil & gas company. You'llwork alongside Asset Specialists and AI engineers to build full-stack solutionsthat support two Pilot products on an attractive remuneration package.
Purpose of the Role
The Software Engineerwill join an embedded team within Secora Garage to design, build, and deliverfull-stack software solutions for the Client. This role goes beyond deliveringto a spec — you'll need to understand end-user and organisational needs wellenough to help frame problems and requirements, then deliver the user storiesand functionality defined for the platform, working closely with AssetSpecialists and AI engineers as you get up to speed on unfamiliar domains suchas SAP, knowledge graphs, and answer set programming.
What You'll Do
- Work onsite / remotely with a small team based out inWollongong, Recent South Wales.
- Design and build full-stack features across Python and React, backed by solid ETL and SQL work.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and integrations on Azure, our primary cloud platform.
- Use agentic coding tools (e.g. Copilot,
Claude Code) effectively— as an accelerant, not a substitute for judgement — and collaborate withteammates using the same tools.
- Form and contribute your own view on solution design, ratherthan only implementing what's specified.
- Work closely with Asset Specialists and AI engineers to buildcapability in unfamiliar domains — SAP Plant Maintenance, emerging AI methods, knowledge graphs, and answer set programming.
- Operate as part of a small, tight‑knit team: communicate openly, give and receive feedback, and raise blockers early.
What We’re Looking For
Core skills (a must):
- Full-stack software engineering: Python, React, Git/GitHub, andsolid ETL/SQL skills.
- Cloud platform experience (we run Azure, but experience on anymajor cloud is transferable).
- Effective use of agentic coding tools (e.g. Copilot, ClaudeCode) — able to use them well without offloading judgement, and to collaboratewith others using the same tools.
- Solution design instinct — someone who forms a view on what thesolution needs to do, not just delivers what they're told.
- Comfortable in a small team: open communication, gives andreceives feedback, raises blockers early.
- Resourceful and self‑directed.
- Willingness to dive into unfamiliar territory — genuine opennessto learning domains like SAP, emerging AI methods, knowledge graphs, and answerset programming, supported by Asset Specialists and AI engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the user stories and functionality defined for the Project.
- Help frame problems and requirements by understanding end-userand organisational needs, not just executing a brief.
- Build and maintain data pipelines, APIs,
and ETL processesintegrating operational and enterprise data sources.
- Write clean, well‑documented, full‑stack code across front‑end(React) and back‑end (Python) components.
- Use agentic coding tools responsibly, keeping human judgementand review central to the process.
- Support Pilot delivery as required, through to build phases.
- Collaborate with Asset Specialists, AI engineers, and otherdevelopers to define and implement technical solutions.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Around 4-5 years' experience in full-stack software engineering.
- Strong Python and React skills, with solid ETL and SQLcapability.
- Experience with Git/GitHub and standard version controlworkflows.
- Practical experience on a major cloud platform (Azure preferred;AWS/GCP experience transferable).
- Demonstrated effective, judgement-led use of agentic codingtools such as Copilot or Claude Code.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to bothtechnical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical stack (can bepicked up on the job):
Domain & sectorknowledge (desirable but not required):
- Engineering / oil & gas knowledge.
Qualifications

- Comfort operating in unfamiliar technical and domain territory, with support from specialists.
- Strong collaborator in a small, multidisciplinary team.
- Resourceful, self‑directed, and proactive about raising blockersearly.
Scope
Understanding end-userand organisational needs well enough to help frame problems and requirements, plus delivering the user stories and functionality defined for the project.
