Position Type: Part-time, fixed term until 30 June hours per week)

Location: Darwin

Salary Range: $72,413 - $77,931 per annum as per Classification HPCS 2.1 - 2.4

This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT)

About the role

The MSW is responsible for supporting the social emotional wellbeing/perinatal mental health of families during the perinatal period. The MSW will work closely with the midwives to support engagement with pregnancy care and coordinate the provision of the program within our DDHS clinical services. The MSW will not only support the pregnant client to access care at DDHS, but they will also ensure the family unit including grandparents, has access to appropriate social emotional wellbeing/ mental health services.

What you'll be doing

Maintain regular contact with clients within the scope of practice that have been identified by the Midwifery Team.

Facilitate client referrals to specialist and other allied health services, both internal and external to DDHS, and when required act as the liaison person on client’s/family’s behalf.

Provide a range of health education messages, information and advice to clients and families about healthy lifestyles choices and the importance of perinatal mental health.

Participate in the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) mental health training funded by The NT Health Perinatal Mental Health Project.

Undertake relevant assessments to identify client/family support needs, gaps in service delivery and potential service provision enhancement and report on such activities as necessary.

Assist with planning, delivery, and evaluation of specific health programs and community activities.

What we're looking for





Demonstrated ability to work within and maintain strict confidentiality guidelines and policies.

Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds to both obtain and convey information relevant to their care.

The ability to interact with a range of health professionals including medical practitioners and allied health professionals.

Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, with an ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks and resources to deliver outcomes within time and budget considerations.

Demonstrated computer skills especially in the use of client information systems or similar.

Demonstrated experience working in maternal health.

Demonstrated experience and competency in working with Communicare.

Relevant qualifications in Maternal and Peri Natal Mental health.

Experience in working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar complex setting such as service industry or public administration.

6 weeks annual leave per annum (pro-rata).

5 days paid leave during our end-of-year shutdown period (in addition to annual leave).
