Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women's Council is an Anangu-led organisation delivering health, social and cultural services across the Central Desert region of the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Intake and Assessment Worker to join our Domestic and Family Violence Service (DFVS). This is an opportunity to provide immediate support to Aboriginal women experiencing domestic and family violence while working within a supportive, trauma-informed and culturally safe team.

About the role

As an Intake and Assessment Worker, you will be the first point of contact for women seeking support through our Domestic and Family Violence Service. Working primarily via telephone and from our Alice Springs office, you will provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy and referrals to women experiencing domestic and family violence.

You will work closely with DFVS Caseworkers and external service providers to ensure women receive timely, appropriate and culturally safe support.

Key responsibilities

Provide trauma-informed and culturally protected support to women accessing DFVS.

Undertake risk assessments and develop safety plans.

Provide short-term crisis intervention, advocacy and referrals.

Liaise with police, health services, child protection and other agencies.

Work collaboratively with the DFVS team and external stakeholders.

Participate in supervision and reflective practice.

About you

To be successful in this role,



you will have:

Experience working in domestic and family violence or a related human services environment.

Experience working with First Nations communities.

Strong risk assessment and safety planning skills.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Strong organisational and time management skills.

Sound computer skills, including experience using client management systems.

A qualification in Social Work, Community Services or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Salary of $95,620.42 – $107,155.38 per annum (negotiable based on experience)

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain:

National Criminal History Check

Working with Children Check (where applicable)

Current Australian Driver Licence

First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Some travel to remote communities and occasional overnight stays may be required.
