TRANSEARCH Australia is delighted to be partnering with the Melbourne Cricket Club in the search for a General Manager, People and Culture.

Opportunities like this are genuinely rare. This role has come to market just twice in the past 15 years, reflecting both the calibre of the opportunity and the loyalty the MCC inspires. For an accomplished People & Culture leader who leads with heart, builds culture with purpose and brings energy to their work, few opportunities compare.

The Melbourne Cricket Club is unlike any other organisation in Australia. With more than 160,000 members and responsibility for the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, the MCC holds a unique place in Australian sporting and cultural life.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager, People & Culture is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. You will lead the People & Culture function and drive the people agenda at the centre of the Club’s Strategic Plan.

The breadth of the workforce makes this role particularly compelling. You will lead the people strategy across three distinct communities:

- A dedicated permanent workforce
- A large casual and event workforce

Each has different needs and motivations. Success will require a leader who can respond to those differences while uniting people behind a shared culture and purpose.

This is not a traditional nine-to-five role. Event days are an important part of the position and the right leader will embrace the energy of the MCC when the venue comes to life.

Your Role

The scope is broad, the impact is significant and no two days will be the same.

- Translate the MCC Strategic Plan (2026–31) into an integrated workforce and organisational strategy that ensures the Club has the capability and capacity to deliver its goals
- Work closely with the CEO and Executive team to delivery on strategic people objectives
- Ensure robust governance of employment law compliance, Fair Work obligations, enterprise agreement compliance, and Child Safety requirements
- Manage the delivery of the Club's culture strategy, ensuring an employee experience that is contemporary and unrivalled within the sport and entertainment industry
- Own the development and delivery of the Club's diversity and inclusion strategy, reporting progress to the Executive Team and Committee
- Build leadership capability across the whole of the Club through structured development, coaching and line manager programs
- Lead organisational design across the Club, ensuring structures, roles and reporting lines align to strategic and commercial priorities
- Set the Club's employee and workplace relations strategy, ensuring it is commercially astute and built on a culture of trust and respect
- Own the Club's people technology roadmap, including the Dayforce HRIS platform,

ensuring systems support enterprise-level decision-making and reporting
- Lead, engage and manage the People & Culture team, providing an environment conducive to high performance and built on respect, trust and engagement
- Report and present to MCC Committee on people related matters

Who You Are

You are an accomplished and highly energetic People & Culture leader who builds trust quickly and combines strategic judgement with a deeply human approach.

You will bring broad HR leadership experience across the full people and culture portfolio, ideally gained within a complex, customer-focused organisation. Strong organisational development capability and a record of leading cultural change are essential.

You will have experience developing people strategies for varied workforce groups and understand how to tailor communication, engagement and leadership approaches accordingly. You will also be comfortable operating in a fast‑paced event environment and maintaining a visible presence across the organisation.

You will bring:

- Strong employee relations, legal and compliance capability
- Experience managing complex workplace matters within current legal frameworks
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, human resources or a related discipline
- Confidence engaging with Boards, Committees and union representatives
- An engaging leadership style that brings out the best in others

The Melbourne Cricket Club is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and welcoming working workplace.
