About the role
We have an opportunity for aPrincipal Platform Engineer (Mainframe System Programmer) to be part of our Database and Mainframe Platform team, Technology and Communication Services Command . ThePrincipal Platform Engineeris responsible for leading service and technical design activities for the relevant technology platform. The role also provides technical support and advice on related technologies to users across multiple locations and platforms, ensuring changes to the setting including complex deployments are managed and have minimal risk to the NSWPF and its data.

We are seeking an experienced IBM Z Mainframe Systems Programmer to join our Mainframe Support team. The Mainframe Support team is responsible for day-to-day operation, administration and management of the NSWPF IBM z16 mainframe systems. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our mainframe environment. This is a technical support role providing 24x7 support to mainframe systems infrastructure. You will work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to support business-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities of the Role –
Provide day-to-day operational support to the NSWPF IBM Z
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM Z mainframe operating systems and related subsystems.
- Apply software upgrades, patches, and maintenance.
- Monitor system performance and implement tuning to optimise efficiency.
- Provide technical support for incident resolution and problem management.
- Configure and support mainframe network and communication components.
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
- Maintain system documentation, standards, and procedures.
- Collect and analyse operational data to identify emerging trends and make recommendations.
- Work with third-party suppliers and vendors including technical delivery/validation of approved implementations and proposed configurations.
The ideal candidate will have –
- Experience with installing, customising and maintaining IBM Z systems – z/OS, SMP/E, SDSF, RACF, SMF, TSO
- Experience with IBM z/OS Communications Server and TCP/IP
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a mission-critical environment
- Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools such as Omegamon
- Experience or Knowledge of CICS and MQ
- Experience or Knowledge of IBM GDPS, z NetView and z System Automation
- Experience or Knowledge of IBM Workload Scheduler
- Strong communication and collaboration skills

Total Remuneration Package: $202,163 pa. Package includes salary from $170,841 to $178,369, plus employer's contribution to superannuation of 12% and annual leave loading.
