$102,936.00 - $113,579.00 pa, plus superannuation and leave loading

Your role

The Aboriginal Services Unit (ASU) is a specialist team within the Department of Communities & Justice that delivers services and programs to Aboriginal court users. We also lead work on Closing the Gap and influence other areas of the department to in projects and policy development through our informed and expert knowledge of Aboriginal people experiencing the NSW justice system as victims and offenders.

What You’ll Do

The Aboriginal Coronial Information and Support Officer is responsible for working in partnership with the coordinator and other staff of the Coronial Information and Support Program (CISP) to provide information and support to improve the experiences of Aboriginal clients and families affected by deaths reported to the Coroner in New South Wales. The role provides culturally safe and sensitive support to Aboriginal people and families to successfully navigate the coronial process and requires the occupant to travel across NSW to provide practice supports to Aboriginal people and families during coronial inquests. The Aboriginal Services Unit is committed to improving access to justice and delivering culturally responsive services for Aboriginal people engaging with the court system, including those involved in coronial matters. Working collaboratively across Specialist Courts and the Coroners Court, this role is jointly managed by the Manager, Specialist Courts and the Coordinator, Coronial Information and Support Program (CISP),



providing a unique chance to work across multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will join a supportive, inclusive and values-driven environment that fosters collaboration, innovation and continuous learning.

What We’re Looking For

Demonstrated experience in social work and case management, including working effectively with Aboriginal families and communities. Sound understanding of the complex social, cultural and systemic issues impacting Aboriginal people, with the ability to provide culturally safe, client-centred and strengths-based support.

Role (Eligibility)

As an identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia’s First Nations people. Where a position is identified, an applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification under the exception in Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role. Either will be accepted:

- Confirmation of Aboriginality form
- Written confirmation from 2‑3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:
1. is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
2. identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
3. is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
