Barker Trailers, a family-owned Australian manufacturer of truck trailers operating since 1974, is seeking a Fabricator/Welder to join their heavy engineering workshop in Woodend.
What the role involves
You’ll work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment doing:
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Laying out, fitting, and assembling metal components
- MIG welding, oxy cutting, grinding, and general fabrication
- Aligning and welding parts into complete trailer units
- Inspecting weld quality against specifications
- Operating fabrication machinery and tools
What they’re looking for
- MIG welding or metal fabrication experience (trade qualification is a bonus but not essential)
- Positive, reliable, and punctual attitude
- Strong safety mindset
- Ability to work in a team and solve problems
- Willingness to learn and develop skills
- Reliable transport to Woodend

Hours
- Mon–Thurs: 6:15am – 3:00pm
- Alternate Fridays: 6:15am – 12:45pm

· Pre-employment medical and police check required
You’ll need to pass a health assessment (to confirm you’re fit for physical workshop work) and provide a criminal history check before being hired.
· Welding test as part of recruitment
Expect a practical skills test—likely MIG welding and/or fabrication tasks. They’ll assess things like weld quality, accuracy, safety, and ability to follow drawings or instructions.
