About The Role

We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Mining Engineer – Medium Term Planning to join the Technical Services team at our CMJV operation.

Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, this role is responsible for the development and delivery of medium term mine plans (3 months to 5 years) that support safe, efficient, and value-driven operations.

You will work closely with operations and technical teams to ensure plans are practical, optimised, and aligned with site objectives.

Duties will include:

Develop and maintain medium term mine plans and schedulesProduce designs and forecasts aligned with production targetsEnsure plans are safe, practical, and executable by operationsMonitor plan performance and identify improvement opportunitiesIntegrate geology, drill & blast, and operational inputs into planning outputsProvide technical support and guidance to site stakeholdersUtilise SPRY planning software to develop and optimise schedulesUtilise Vulcan and Deswik design software to produce pit, dump and rehab designs supporting the medium and long-term plans aligned with operational requirementsMentor and support junior engineers within the teamContribute to budgeting, forecasting, and life-of-mine activitiesSupport continuous improvement initiatives across planning and operations

The Lifestyle

This position is offered on a 9-day fortnight roster (Monday–Friday, Monday–Thursday) and supports a residential, DIDO, or FIFO lifestyle, depending on candidate preference.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical capability, a proactive mindset, and a focus on delivering practical outcomes. Ideally, you will possess:

Tertiary qualification in Mining EngineeringProven experience in medium term planning within an open cut coal operationDemonstrated proficiency using SPRY, Vulcan and Deswik (mine planning software)Strong understanding of mine planning principles and operational requirements including Drill & Blast, Load & Haul and Dragline methodologyAbility to analyse data and translate outcomes into actionable plansStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsQueensland First Class Mine Manager (or working towards) highly regardedA strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement





You will be a collaborative team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced mining environment.

Physical Requirements - Underground Environment

Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shiftMust have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehiclesMust have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroomMust have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHAMust have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine heightMust have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and laddersMust have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and positive hand to eye coordinationMust have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work areaMust have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
