The Opportunity
The Commercial Procurement Section within Portfolio Branch is ASD’s specialist procurement delivery cell. It is comprised of a group of commercial and procurement specialists responsible for providing hands on support to major procurement activities, provision of procurement, commercial and contract management advice, as well as the development of bespoke learning artefacts and delivery of training to uplift the Agency’s procurement and commercial capability.The Commercial Procurement Section is seeking experienced ASD4 and ASD5 Procurement Officers to support a number of key initiatives and operational outcomes.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will support a diverse range of activities, including the provision of procedural procurement and commercial advice, reporting, and financial and administration management.
The accountabilities of the roles will include:
Provide support for procurement planning, tendering, contract formation and contract management activities while ensuring compliance with Commonwealth Procurement Rules, instructions, legislation, procurement policies, processes and proceduresBuild, sustain and encourage productive relationships across ASD, and be confident in communicating with a diverse range of stakeholders adjusting your style and approach to individual needs.Support business improvement – have an eye for opportunity and creating efficiencies in procurement team processes and with ASD businessDraft and review contracting correspondence including commercially sensitive reports, submissions, proposals and other documents as required.Work collaboratively with the team, stakeholders and subject matter experts to establish and finalise contracts and resolve contracting issues that may arise.Manage (including prioritisation and escalation)
the Sections shared inboxes and assist with first line support to a broad range of procurement related enquiriesSupport Section reporting, record keeping, audits, finance and administration related activities

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is an experienced administrator who, under direction, will perform a range of contracting, procurement, section finance and administration activities. Candidates will be able to demonstrate their experience, knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and the Australian Signals Directorate’s mission and policy requirements.
The ASD4 and ASD5 Procurement Officers will be able to work within a multi-disciplined and fast-paced workplace, as a member of an experienced and professional team, for the achievement of agreed outcomes. Candidates will be expected to exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of ASD-specific practices and procedures.
Our ideal candidate will have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation skills. A working knowledge of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and experience with Federal Government procurements or associated processes is necessary. The ability to analyse procurement policies and guidance and communicate direction to business areas is critical.Application Closing Date: Sunday, 26th July 2026.
