About The Role
Band 4 - total package to be negotiated with successful candidate based on skills and experience
At TasNetworks, we design and deliver the energy systems that power Tasmania — safely, reliably, and sustainably. We’re looking for a talented Designer to join our collaborative design team and help shape the future of our distribution network.
You’ll be the main point of contact for customers needing design advice, helping them understand their options and guiding them through the connection process. Your work will support the safe and efficient delivery of projects and ensure designs are completed to a high standard.
This role suits someone who enjoys problem‑solving, working with people and turning technical information into clear, workable designs.
This Role Will See You
- Work directly with customers on-site to assess and define connection requirements
- Develop accurate designs and cost estimates for overhead, underground, building substations and augmentation projects
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice on connection options and pricing
- Coordinate design information and handover to delivery teams, ensuring technical clarity
- Ensure all work complies with NECF, TasNetworks standards, and safety requirements
- Apply technical software and tools including AutoCAD, AUD (Automated Utility Design), MS Office, surveying, and network analysis applications
About You
As an experienced distribution designer with demonstrated proficiency in overhead, underground and substations, you are confident working in the field and in the office, engaging with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into safe, efficient, and constructible design solutions. With strong technical foundations and a clear, professional communication style, you build trusted relationships, manage expectations effectively, and apply sound judgement to deliver high-quality outcomes. You take pride in practical problem‑solving, attention to detail,
and driving projects forward in a structured and team-oriented way.
You bring tertiary qualifications in power system design, Electrical Advanced Diploma or greater, or significant trade-based experience in the electrical distribution industry. You understand underground and overhead distribution systems, substations, and street lighting, and you’re skilled with MS Office, AUD (Automated Utility Design)/CAD applications, surveying and design tools, and network analysis techniques.
You take pride in producing high‑quality work, meeting deadlines and supporting safe, reliable outcomes for customers and the network.
