Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage (APAS) provides commercial aircraft storage, maintenance and part-out services to the international aviation industry from our Alice Springs base. We hold Part 145 maintenance approvals issued by CASA, the FAA, EASA and other national aviation authorities, covering all major aircraft types, and we are the first organisation in Australia and Oceania accredited to both the AFRA Best Management Practice standard and ASA-100.

We are seeking a Material & Logistics Manager to take end-to-end ownership of the stores, material control and logistics functions supporting our maintenance and part-out activities, and to lead the team that runs them. Purchasing is handled by a separate business unit, and this role works closely with it.

The stores and material control function operates under our Part 145 approvals and is subject to surveillance by five national aviation authorities as well as our accreditation bodies and customer quality organisations. The person in this role is accountable both for the day-to-day performance of the function and for the integrity of the material control system that sits underneath it.

Part 145 material control and quality

- Operate the stores, receiving and material control function in accordance with the company Exposition and the requirements of our CASA, FAA, EASA, CAA NZ and CAAP Part 145 approvals.
- Own receiving inspection: verification of authorised release documentation (EASA Form 1, FAA Form 8130-3, CASA Form One and dual-release equivalents), certificates of conformity, and back-to-birth traceability for life-limited and time-controlled components.
- Maintain correct classification and physical segregation of serviceable, unserviceable, quarantined, scrap and unsalvageable material, and control the mutilation and disposal of unsalvageable parts so that they cannot re-enter the supply chain.
- Control storage conditions to manufacturer and regulatory requirements, including shelf life, temperature and humidity control, ESD-sensitive components, batteries, chemicals, elastomeric goods and tyres.
- Control tooling and equipment held in stores, including calibration status, calibration recall and quarantine of out-of-calibration items.
- Confirm at receipt that material has been obtained from a source approved under our quality system, and provide receiving inspection and supplier performance data to the purchasing function to support supplier evaluation and ongoing surveillance.
- Identify, quarantine and report suspected unapproved parts, and raise occurrence reports where required.




- Maintain complete and auditable material records for the applicable retention period, and act as the responsible point of contact for regulator, accreditation body and customer audit of the stores function, including closure of findings.
- Complete and maintain the human factors, continuation and dangerous goods training required under our approvals, and make sure the team does the same.

Material planning and interface with purchasing

- Own inventory levels: set and review minimum and maximum holdings, reorder points and consumable stocking policy for parts, consumables and general supplies.
- Raise and prioritise material demand, including AOG and time-critical requirements, and give the purchasing function explicit requirement dates and technical specification.
- Track open orders against maintenance need, flag slippage early, and escalate where a delivery date puts a maintenance event at risk.
- Identify discrepancies, shortages, damage and non-conforming material at receipt, and hand the commercial recovery, whether rejection, warranty or credit, to purchasing with the supporting evidence.

Logistics

- Manage inbound and outbound movement of aircraft material, including import and export clearance, customs, and dangerous goods consignment.
- Coordinate freight forwarders and carriers, monitor their performance, and manage AOG and time-critical recovery.
- Manage preservation, packaging and shipping of components recovered from storage and part-out programmes, to ATA 300 or customer requirements.
- Work with engineering, planning and line maintenance so that material availability matches the maintenance schedule.

Team and performance

- Lead the stores and logistics team: set clear standards, manage day-to-day performance, address underperformance directly, and build capability through structured training and company authorisation.
- Own the measures for the function, including inventory accuracy, receiving inspection turnaround, quarantine and shelf-life ageing, stocktake variance, stock availability against maintenance demand, and AOG response time, and act on what they show.




- Write and maintain the work instructions and procedures covering material control and logistics, and take proposed changes through the quality approval process.
- Maintain environmental, WHS and security standards across all stores and material handling areas.

What we are looking for

Essential

- At least five years in aviation materials, stores or logistics, including at least three years with direct responsibility for people: setting expectations, conducting performance conversations, and managing underperformance through to a resolution. Aviation procurement experience is relevant background but will not substitute for hands-on stores and material control experience.
- Working knowledge of Part 145 material control requirements, demonstrated through experience rather than familiarity. You should be able to describe how you have dealt with non-conforming release documentation, incomplete traceability on a life-limited component, shelf-life expiry, and the segregation and disposal of unserviceable and scrap material.
- Experience of being audited on the stores function by a national aviation authority, an accreditation body or a customer quality organisation, and of closing the resulting findings.
- Current IATA dangerous goods training appropriate to shipping, or the ability to obtain it within three months of commencement.
- Practical experience using an M&E; or maintenance information system for material control (for example AMOS, TRAX, Quantum, Ramco or similar), and competence in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Sound judgement under operational pressure, and the confidence to hold a position on a compliance matter when the schedule is pushing the other way.
- Open, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
- Ability to obtain and hold a Red ASIC.
- Willingness to live in Alice Springs.

Desirable

- Experience in an ASA-100 or AFRA Best Management Practice accredited environment.
- Part-out, teardown or used serviceable material experience.
- Export control, sanctions screening or customs compliance experience.
- High risk work licence (LF) for forklift operation, or the ability to obtain one.

Working conditions

Full-time, based at Alice Springs Airport. The role involves work in a warehouse and airside environments with exposure to noise and outdoor conditions, and may require physical exertion including lifting, climbing ladders and working at heights. Safety equipment is provided and its use is mandatory. Relocation support is available for the right candidate.

Remuneration

Commensurate with experience, and discussed openly at first interview.
