We are working with an exciting BioTech scale-up who are developing technology to enhance the preservation of biological substances. Their solutions improve the quality and viability of stored materials for use in various applications, including medical and agricultural fields.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their engineering team. The role is approximately 80% hands‑on software engineering and 20% team mentorship and Agile coordination. The role is based in Melbourne and the team operate in a 3-2 hybrid model.

About the role

You will be joining an established, high-performing team to help build and maintain web applications, IoT platforms, and device‑adjacent software. While the core codebase utilises modern TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Azure IoT Hub, the current project involves integrating with SoftPLC (no prior experience with this or embedded systems is required, you will pick it up as you go).

Because you will be liaising heavily with external design partners, a strong background in regulated medical device software is absolutely essential. The team needs someone with the technical expertise to advocate for internal standards, push back when necessary, and navigate MedTech compliance while mentoring two internal mid-level developers.

The team will rely on you to:

- Design and deliver secure, full-stack web applications and IoT platforms using TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Azure.
- Collaborate closely with external contract developers to oversee system architecture and successfully transition software projects back in-house.

- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to internal team members to help elevate their engineering capabilities.
- Support the team's Agile delivery by managing dependencies, facilitating lightweight ceremonies, and maintaining clear stakeholder communication.
- Ensure all software development and documentation strictly comply with regulated human health standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
- Champion high engineering quality through rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and strong CI/CD practices.

Ideally you have:

- 7 to 10+ years of digital software development experience with a strong track record of delivery.
- Experience working within regulated medical device software and QMS, with knowledge of medical device software standards like IEC 62304 or ISO 13485.
- Strong full-stack or backend-leaning capability across modern TypeScript ecosystems and cloud infrastructure (ideally Azure).
- The seniority, confidence, and communication skills to effectively influence and manage external technical vendors.
- Experience working in Agile methodologies and facilitating iterative development practices.

Bonus points if you also have:

- Familiarity with device connectivity, telemetry, or Azure IoT Hub.
- Any prior exposure to SoftPLC or embedded systems environments.
- Formal Agile or Scrum Master certifications.

What's next

If you are a Senior Engineer who cares deeply about product outcomes and wants to use your technical skills to improve patient lives in a collaborative, purpose-driven workplace, we encourage you to apply. We will be reviewing applications over the coming week, and contacting shortlisted candidates for a phone screen before interviewing with the client.
