Experienced Mental Health and Disability Support Worker – Autism & Complex Needs
Location: South West Sydney, NSW (Fairfield/Abbotsbury/Liverpool)

About the Role
We are seeking experienced, compassionate, and reliable Disability Support Workers to support a young non-verbal male participant with Autism and complex support needs across both in-home care and community participation.
This is a rewarding opportunity for support workers who have experience supporting individuals with Autism, behaviours of concern, and complex communication needs. The successful applicant will be calm, patient, observant, and committed to providing consistent, person-centred support while following established routines and behaviour support strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, person-centred support within the participant's home and the community.
- Support with personal care while maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Assist with meal preparation and mealtime support.
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies in accordance with the Behaviour Support Plan (BSP).
- Use clear, consistent, and step-by-step communication techniques appropriate for a non-verbal participant.
- Promote independence through skill development and meaningful daily activities.
- Support community participation, social engagement, recreational outings, and appointments.
- Provide safe transportation to community activities and appointments.
- Maintain a calm, structured, and low-stimulation environment.
- Monitor the participant's wellbeing and respond appropriately to changes in behaviour or support needs.
- Complete accurate progress notes, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Work collaboratively with families, coordinators, and the broader support team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience supporting people with Autism and complex disability support needs.
- Experience supporting non-verbal participants or individuals with complex communication needs.
- A strong understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and behaviour management strategies.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.
- Excellent observation, communication, and documentation skills.
- The ability to work independently while following detailed support plans.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, sleepovers, and public holidays as required.
- A genuine passion for improving the quality of life of people living with disability.
Participant Requirements
The successful support worker will:
- Follow structured routines and communication strategies consistently.
- Build a trusting and respectful relationship with the participant.
- Support community access confidently and safely.
- Be patient, calm, and adaptable to changing support needs.
- Maintain the participant's dignity, privacy, and individual choice at all times.
Male support workers are preferred to meet the participant's comfort and support preferences; however, experienced female applicants are encouraged to apply.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, or equivalent.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- National Police Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle.
- Current COVID-19 and recommended vaccinations (if required).
