Position Summary

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager is responsible for supporting the Executive Housekeeping Manager in the day-to-day management of the housekeeping department. This role ensures guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest cleanliness and presentation standards while achieving productivity targets, quality standards, and budget requirements.

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager leads housekeeping supervisors and attendants, promotes a positive workplace culture, and ensures compliance with company policies, hotel brand standards, and workplace health and safety legislation.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Management

- Assist in managing the daily housekeeping operation.
- Ensure all guest rooms, suites, public areas, and back-of-house areas meet hotel brand standards.
- Allocate daily room assignments and monitor staff productivity.
- Ensure all departure, stayover, VIP, and priority rooms are completed within required timeframes.
- Conduct regular room inspections and quality audits.
- Follow up on guest requests and housekeeping-related complaints promptly.
- Coordinate with Front Office and Maintenance to ensure efficient room availability and defect reporting.

Staff Leadership

- Supervise Housekeeping Supervisors, Room Attendants, Housepersons, and Public Area Attendants.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and induction of new employees.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
- Assist with performance management, disciplinary processes, and staff development.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace.





Rostering and Productivity

- Assist in preparing daily staffing requirements based on hotel occupancy.
- Monitor labour costs and productivity targets.
- Ensure staffing levels align with operational demands.
- Assist in approving timesheets and verifying hours worked.
- Monitor overtime and casual labour usage.

Quality Assurance

- Conduct daily inspections of guest rooms and public areas.
- Ensure compliance with hotel brand standards and company SOPs.
- Monitor housekeeping quality scores and guest satisfaction results.
- Implement corrective actions where standards are not achieved.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Health, Safety and Compliance

- Promote a safe working setting.
- Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings as required.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, and injuries promptly.
- Participate in workplace inspections and risk assessments.

Inventory and Stock Control

- Monitor linen, guest amenities, chemicals, uniforms, and housekeeping supplies.
- Assist with stock ordering and inventory control.
- Minimise wastage and prevent stock shortages.




- Ensure housekeeping storerooms remain clean, organised, and secure.

Administration

- Complete daily operational reports.
- Maintain accurate housekeeping records.
- Assist with payroll documentation and staff attendance records.
- Prepare productivity and quality reports when required.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and guest information.

Communication

- Liaise effectively with Front Office, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and hotel management.
- Attend operational meetings and shift briefings.
- Ensure effective communication of operational priorities to the housekeeping team.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Guest room inspection scores meet or exceed company standards.
- Guest satisfaction and cleanliness ratings are consistently achieved.
- Rooms released on time for guest check-in.
- Productivity targets consistently met.
- Labour costs remain within budget.
- Stock loss and wastage minimised.
- High compliance with WHS and company policies.
- Low staff turnover and strong employee engagement.
- Timely completion of administrative duties and reports.

Skills and ExperienceEssential

- Previous experience in hotel housekeeping.
- Experience supervising or leading a housekeeping team.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of hotel housekeeping procedures.
- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Pay: $28.00 – $60.00 per hour
