In your new role you will be required to deliver direct nursing care at an advanced level, within a specific area of expertise whilst providing education, support, and supervision to all levels of nurses within SOAU.

About us:

The Surgical & Orthopaedic Assessment Unit (SOAU) will operate within the Directorate of Intensive Care, Women's and Perioperative (ICWP). This service aims to provide Surgical, Gynaecology and Orthopaedic patient care for the communities of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) and the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS). The SOAU model of care is primarily to assess and work up patients requiring emergent/unplanned admission to the Cairns Hospital to optimise and streamline the patient journey with earlier decision making and intervention.

About your chance:

In this position you will…

- Be accountable for own decisions/actions, behaviours and standards including monitoring and evaluating activities delegated to others.
- Use advanced level communication and interpersonal skills, incorporating the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with all levels across the organisation to promote effective team functioning.
- Undertake quality improvement and evidence-based practice activities to ensure the provision of quality, cost-effective patient care in line with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
- Apply contemporary human resource management principles to ensure that the unit working workplace meets legislative standards and CHHHS policies and procedures.
