Lutheran Disability Services (LDS) are seeking a skilled and motivated WHS & Risk Officer to lead and support the delivery of Work, Health and Safety (WHS) in the organisation.

Description:
The WHS Officer at Lutheran Disability Services plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of all employees, clients, and visitors within the organisation. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective workplace health and safety practices that comply with relevant legislation and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and assess risks associated with various tasks.
- Develop and deliver training programs on health and safety regulations, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents and accidents, ensuring comprehensive reporting and analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with management to create a culture of safety by promoting awareness of health and safety issues across the organisation.
- Maintain accurate records related to workplace injuries, incidents, inspections, audits, and compliance reports.
- Provide expert advice on legislative requirements affecting workplace health and safety standards.
- Review existing policies and procedures regularly to ensure continuous improvement in health and safety practices.





Return to Work & Injury Management

Support return to work, rehabilitation, and injury management for work-related injuries.
Develop and communicate Return to Work Plans in a timely and supportive manner.
Liaise with employees, leaders, stakeholders, and insurers to ensure effective injury management outcomes.

The WHS Officer will also be instrumental in engaging employees at all levels to foster a proactive approach towards workplace safety. By utilising strong communication skills, this role will facilitate discussions regarding health concerns while championing initiatives aimed at minimising risks within the work environment.

Skills and Experiences:
About You:

- Strong knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with staff and management.
- Proficient in conducting risk assessments and audits to identify workplace hazards.
- Ability to develop, implement, and maintain WHS policies and procedures.
- Solid analytical skills to interpret data related to workplace safety.
- Effective training and presentation skills for delivering WHS training sessions.

Skills

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar WHS officer role within a relevant industry
- Diploma or Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (highly regarded)
- Experience in developing safety programs and initiatives that promote a culture of safety within the organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and reporting processes.
- Previous involvement in stakeholder engagement regarding health and safety matters.
- Experience with compliance audits and regulatory inspections in relation to WHS standards.
- Satisfactory NDIS Clearance or willing to obtain one
