Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Industrial Organiser to join the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation NT Branch. Based in Coconut Grove, NT, this is a full-time position that sits at the heart of our industrial relations and employment law operations. As Industrial Organiser, you will play a crucial strategic role in supporting our members through industrial negotiations, workplace disputes, and employment matters. This position is essential to fulfilling our mission of protecting and advancing the interests of nurses and midwives throughout the Northern Territory, working directly with members, employers and government stakeholders to achieve fair outcomes and improved workplace conditions.

Key responsibilities

1. Organising and mobilising members around workplace issues, industrial campaigns and collective bargaining initiatives
2. Providing frontline support and advice to members on employment rights, industrial matters, enterprise agreements and workplace disputes
3. Representing members in negotiations with employers, management and other stakeholders on matters including pay, conditions, staffing levels and workplace safety
4. Investigating workplace complaints and grievances, and supporting members through dispute resolution processes
5. Maintaining detailed records of member interactions, industrial matters and campaign activities in accordance with organisational requirements
6. Liaising with other ANMF branches, unions and labour organisations to share information and coordinate industrial strategies
7. Attending workplace meetings, forums and engagement sessions to promote union membership and communicate with members
8.



Contributing to the development and implementation of industrial strategies and campaigns aligned with the ANMF NT Branch strategic priorities
9. Maintaining knowledge of employment law, award provisions, enterprise agreements and industrial relations legislation relevant to nursing and midwifery
10. Supporting the organisation of enterprise agreement campaigns and coordination of member voting processes

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated experience in industrial relations, employment law, union organising or workplace advocacy (preferably 2+ years)
2. Solid knowledge of employment law, awards, enterprise agreements and industrial relations legislation in Australia
3. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with members, employers and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
4. Proven ability to build relationships, listen actively and respond empathetically to member concerns and workplace issues
5. Demonstrated problem-solving capability and ability to think strategically about industrial matters and campaign development
6. Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and priorities simultaneously
7. Commitment to social justice, fairness in the workplace and the values of the union movement
8. Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evening and weekend work to attend member meetings and events
9. Ability to travel within the Northern Territory to meet with members at various workplaces and locations
10. Hold or be willing to obtain a drivers license, Criminal history check and ochre card (working with children in the NT)
11. Proficient Computer literacy
