ABOUT US

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (SHSAC) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation delivering culturally protected, comprehensive primary health care across nine remote communities in the Katherine East region of the Northern Territory. Our work is grounded in community partnership, respect, and a strong focus on improving long-term health outcomes for Aboriginal people.

As part of our team, you will contribute to impactful environmental health initiatives, supporting disease prevention and promoting healthier communities across the region.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and community-focused Environmental Health Community Officer to join our Chronic Care team. In this rewarding role, you will work in partnership with Aboriginal communities, local organisations and health professionals to improve long-term health outcomes across the Sunrise Health Service region.

As part of a multidisciplinary primary health care team, you will play a key role in promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing chronic disease and addressing environmental health issues that impact community wellbeing. Working collaboratively with local government, Aboriginal communities and other key stakeholders, you will help develop and deliver practical environmental health initiatives that respond to community needs,



strengthen local capacity and support healthier, more resilient communities.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver community environmental health programs and community initiatives

- Conduct housing audits and environmental health assessments

- Monitor, report, and evaluate health promotion activities

- Engage with communities, councils, and external stakeholders

- Respond to environmental health referrals and enquiries

- Support preventative health strategies with multidisciplinary teams

Skills Required

- Strong communication and community engagement skills

- Understanding of environmental health principles

- Ability to work independently in remote settings

- Cultural awareness and sensitivity

- Problem-solving and organisational skills

- Basic reporting and data management ability

Qualifications

- Qualification in health, community health, environmental health or related field (desirable)

- Current Driver’s Licence

- Current First Aid Certificate

- National Criminal History Check

- Valid working rights in Australia
