Primary objective
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of economic, environment and social policies and strategies which grow
the Northern Territory economy through increased private investment and sustained new jobs creation. An Executive contract of
up to 4 years may be offered or alternatively the successful applicant can select to be appointed on an ongoing basis

Context statement
Strategy Policy and Coordination work in partnership with teams across the department,



government and industry to conceive and
deliver economic, industry growth and reform strategies. This work is delivered through analysis and advice, driving an ambitious
reform program, and promotion and advocacy of the Territory. The division coordinates and provides whole-of-agency advice to
the Chief Executive on a broad range of economic, other policy and northern development issues impacting industry and business,
and provides secretariat support services including playing a pivotal role in the relationship between the agency, Government, the
Minister’s Office and Cabinet Office.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership, analysis, strategic direction and advice to achieve the government’s strategic priorities focused on economic

growth, primarily through increasing private investment and sustained current jobs creation.
2. Lead complex policy reforms to deliver long-term economic, financial and social benefits for the Territory.
3. Establish and sustain strong networks and partnerships with government and external stakeholders.
4. Lead a multi-disciplinary team and work interdependently, exercise initiative, flexibility, political astuteness, problem solving skills

and sound judgement, based on sound economic and productivity growth principles.
5. Represent the division and/or department on inter-agency, whole of government, and national forums and when working with

external parties.




6. Oversee the coordination and facilitation of timely, appropriate and effective communication between the Department, other

government agencies, ministerial offices and the Cabinet Office.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant discipline combined with relevant senior executive experience, or the equivalent combination

of substantial relevant senior executive experience and education or training.
2. Highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with demonstrated success in preparing economic, employment,

business and industry development policy advice and research to influence strategic direction to achieve organisational outcomes.
3. Proven leadership and management capabilities and experience, with sound judgement and highly developed policy, planning,

project and people management skills and organisational capabilities.
4. High order writing skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated experience preparing Ministerial briefings, Cabinet

correspondence, and policies and papers on sensitive and complex subject matters.
5. High order interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to maintain effective stakeholder relationships, represent

the organisation with stakeholders, and to lead discussions to achieve strategic objectives.
6. Proven ability to monitor internal and external operating environments, and high-level political awareness and business acumen.
