Sharp & Carter is partnering with a well-established, privately-owned business based in Melbourne's South East to recruit an experienced Company Accountant. Our client is a boutique operation with a strong reputation in its sector and a finance function that offers genuine breadth for someone ready to take the next step in their career.

The Role
Based in the South East, this is a newly created opportunity offering excellent exposure across financial accounting, management reporting, commercial analysis, statutory compliance and business improvement initiatives. In a smaller, close-knit team, you'll get far closer to the numbers and the decision-making than you would in a larger corporate finance function. This role would suit a technically strong accountant currently working within a boutique or private client Chartered Accounting workplace, looking to make their first move into a commercial setting.

Key responsibilities include:

- Overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, strong internal controls and resolution of complex queries
- Preparing month-end journals, reconciliations and financial reporting outputs, ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and compliance with reporting deadlines
- Producing management reports, budgets, forecasts, variance analysis and performance insights to support business decision-making
- Monitoring revenue, costs, margins and overall financial performance across the business
- Supporting compliance with internal controls,



policies and financial governance frameworks
- Identifying and implementing process improvements, automation opportunities and cost-saving initiatives within the finance function
- Contributing to systems and process improvement projects as the finance function continues to evolve
- Assisting with statutory reporting, external audits and taxation requirements, including GST, BAS, FBT and Payroll Tax obligations
- Building effective relationships across the business and supporting the broader finance team as required

About You

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- CA qualified, or well progressed towards completion
- Currently based within a smaller, private client-focused Chartered Accounting firm, with strong exposure to high-net-worth individuals and their business structures
- Ready to make a first move from practice into a commercial environment
- Strong technical accounting, reporting and reconciliation skills
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, with the ability to pick up ERP systems quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across a business
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a genuine interest in process improvement
