Research Officer - PYC Therapeutics
Life-changing science is our focus - and discovery research is central to how we get there.
PYC Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotech company developing RNA therapies for patients living with rare genetic diseases. We are entering a pivotal stage of growth as we advance our clinical programs, expand our pipeline, and continue building our position as a global RNA therapeutics company.
Our work spans inherited retinal disease, polycystic kidney disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders, alongside a broader discovery pipeline.
The PYC002 program is focused on advancing early-stage research that supports PYC’s RNA therapeutics platform. This includes evaluating novel technologies, generating high-quality molecular and cellular biology data, and developing experimental approaches that help progress promising therapeutic concepts through discovery research. The work is highly collaborative and requires close interaction with scientists across the program to ensure experiments are robust, reproducible and aligned to broader project objectives.
We have a newly created role for a Research Officer to join our Discovery Team and support the PYC002 research program. Reporting into our Group Lead, this hands-on laboratory role will suit someone who enjoys experimental design, method optimisation and producing reliable data that helps inform scientific decision-making.
Working closely with program leads and scientific colleagues, you will:
- Design, execute and optimise experiments to evaluate novel technologies supporting the RNA therapeutics platform.
- Perform molecular and cellular biology techniques including cell culture, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, RT-PCR, ddPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and functional assays.
- Develop, troubleshoot, validate and standardise laboratory protocols to support robust and reproducible results.
- Analyse experimental data using appropriate statistical, bioinformatics and database software packages.
- Apply scientific knowledge to propose and evaluate new methodologies, technologies and experimental approaches.
- Contribute technical input to experimental planning, protocol development, assay optimisation and troubleshooting across relevant research activities.
This is a full-time position based at our Harry Perkins site, working as part of a team-oriented, science-led team.
About You
You are a practical, curious and detail-focused scientist who enjoys working in the lab, solving problems and contributing to meaningful research outcomes. To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), Master of Science or equivalent qualification in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of RNA and DNA regulation, processing and biology.
- Extensive experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA, RNA and protein extraction, PCR/RT-PCR and/or ddPCR, ELISA and Western blotting.
- Extensive experience with tissue culture techniques, including sterile technique, maintaining cell lines and common cell-based assays.
- Ability to develop, troubleshoot, optimise and standardise experimental protocols.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, data analysis, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver project objectives within established timelines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate, auditable research records.
- Experience with advanced tissue culture techniques, including iPSC maintenance, differentiation and disease modelling and/or working with oligonucleotide-based therapeutics or related technologies for modulation of RNA expression, will be highly regarded.
About Us
At PYC Therapeutics, we are building a high-performance, science-led organisation where curiosity, collaboration and pace matter. Our teams work across discovery, translational and clinical research to advance RNA-based therapies with the potential to make a meaningful difference for patients. This is an opportunity to contribute to important science in a growing and innovative environment, where your work can help shape the development of our therapeutic platform.
