Located at the stunning Glenelg Marina Pier, the restaurant is recognised for its spectacular waterfront views, fresh local seafood and high standard of service.
Established in the late 1990s, Sammy’s continues to attract local and international guests through its vibrant menu offerings and commitment to quality dining. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality meals in accordance with Sammy’s on the Marina’s menu, recipes and quality standards. The role will support the efficient operation of the kitchen by ensuring food is prepared safely, consistently and in compliance with food safety, hygiene and
Work Health and Safety requirements. The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare, season and cook seafood dishes and other menu items in accordance with established recipes and cooking methods.
- Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, measuring and portioning food items before cooking.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking appliances.
- Monitor cooking times, temperatures and food quality to ensure meals are consistently prepared to the required standard.
- Inspect food supplies and ingredients to ensure freshness,
quality and compliance with food safety requirements.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with requirements and workplace procedures.
- Store food safely, rotate stock and minimise food wastage through effective portion control.
- Assist with receiving, checking and storing food deliveries and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
- Work collaboratively with the Chef and kitchen team to ensure effective food preparation and timely service during busy periods.
- Comply with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies, food safety regulations and all kitchen operating procedures.
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas to ensure a safe and hygienic working environment.
- Perform other cook-related duties consistent with the position as directed by the Chef.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
- At least one year of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
- Sound knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Ability to prepare seafood dishes and a variety of Australian cuisine.
- Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements.
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to food quality.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
