Head of Rowing
Firbank Grammar School is seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Rowing to lead and further develop our highly regarded rowing program.

Reporting to the Director of Sport, with a functional relationship to the Head of Senior School, the Head of Rowing provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the School's rowing program. The role is responsible for the planning, delivery and ongoing development of a program that caters for students from beginner to elite level, while fostering wellbeing, teamwork and a love of the sport.
The position is based primarily at Firbank's Brighton Campus and involves early mornings, afternoons, weekends and attendance at regattas and events during the rowing season.
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Firbank rowing program, aligned with the School's values and strategic direction
- Lead, support and manage rowing staff, including senior and junior coaches
- Plan and deliver high‑quality training programs for students across all ability levels
- Oversee crew selection, regatta planning and competition participation in consultation with key stakeholders
- Build positive relationships with students, parents and the wider rowing community
- Liaise with relevant external bodies including rowing clubs and governing organisations
- Ensure effective communication, risk management and compliance with health and safety requirements
- Manage equipment, facilities and resources to a high standard
- Contribute positively to the broader life of the School and its co‑curricular programs
The successful applicant will bring:
- Significant experience coaching rowing, including at senior and/or high‑performance levels
- Demonstrated leadership capability within a school or youth sporting environment
- Robust understanding of training principles, technical development and regatta preparation
- A student‑centred approach, with a commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and positive culture
- Excellent organisational, communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and external partners
- Relevant coaching accreditation
- A current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
- Boat licence (or ability to obtain one)
