Your new company

Hays is partnering with a leading education and research institution to engage an experienced CMDB SME to drive the uplift of ServiceNow CMDB and service management capabilities. This is a strategic advisory role focused on establishing the asset, configuration and ownership data required to support risk-based vulnerability management, improve security outcomes, and strengthen operational governance.

Working client-side within a complex multi-vendor environment, you will provide expert guidance on CMDB strategy, governance and design while influencing vendor-led ServiceNow discovery and implementation activities. Your work will directly support the organisation's security and vulnerability management operating model by improving visibility of assets, ownership, service criticality and system relationships.

Your new role

- Provide strategic advice on ServiceNow CMDB, configuration management and asset management practices

- Design CMDB governance frameworks, ownership models and data quality controls

- Guide and challenge vendors delivering ServiceNow discovery, roadmap and implementation activities

- Ensure CMDB outcomes align with vulnerability management, security operations and risk management objectives

- Define service and asset data models that establish clear ownership, business context and service criticality

- Integrate CMDB capabilities with security, asset management and discovery tooling





- Support phased delivery approaches that provide immediate security value while building long-term capability

- Engage with IT, security, GRC, service owners and external vendors to drive adoption and operational outcomes

What you'll need to succeed

- Strong experience designing and implementing ServiceNow CMDB solutions within large or complex enterprise environments

- Demonstrated experience linking CMDB, asset management and configuration management practices to security and risk outcomes

- Strong understanding of CMDB governance, data models, ownership frameworks and data quality management

- Experience overseeing or guiding third-party ServiceNow vendors and implementation partners

- Solid knowledge of ITSM disciplines including Incident, Problem, Change and Request Management

- Experience integrating CMDB platforms with endpoint management, cloud, asset discovery and vulnerability management tools

- Ability to translate technical service management concepts into business risk and security outcomes

- Excellent stakeholder engagement and advisory skills
