About the Project

John Holland, partnering with the Queensland Government, is delivering the new Toowoomba Hospital on the 75‑hectare Baillie Henderson Hospital campus. The project adds state‑of‑the‑art facilities to the existing Base Hospital, expanding healthcare services for the Darling Downs region.

About the Position

Site Engineer Building (Fit Out) – Provides onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure short‑term planning and programming of works, in collaboration with site supervision staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure compliance of works with technical specifications, legislation, approvals, standards and John Holland SQE Risk Management process.
- Conduct and administer overall job planning and programming, including short‑range and intermediate activities for approval by the Project Manager.
- Input information and undertake minor design on site, monitor and recommend changes to design details to increase ease of construction.
- Exercise skilled judgement in resolving engineering issues such as construction methods, design and engineering procedures.
- Demonstrate financial management skills, including cost reduction and budget compliance.
- Verify subcontractors’ claims and variations.
- Undertake cost controlling and estimating as required by the Site Manager; maintain drawing register controls.
- Implement and communicate risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
- Report on project performance, compliance, defects and/or non‑conformance.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative safety,



environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes.

Key Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction, Construction Management or equivalent.
- Minimum 2‑4 years post‑graduation engineering experience, ideally with a tier‑1 or large tier‑2 contractor.
- Mandatory experience in the building sector; previous health/hospital experience highly advantageous.
- Experience in construction management with specific technical skills in fit‑out ideal.
- Extensive planning, development and review of complex projects.
- Implementation of audit and schedule systems.
- Proficiency in document and record management, progress and project performance reporting, compliance and procedures.
