About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced and visionary leader in strategic growth planning with a passion for managing change and deliver quality new development. Town of Gawler is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Manager Growth to lead, manage, and oversee our strategic planning, economic development and tourism, urban design/open space and community infrastructure teams.
Reporting to the Director Community and Growth, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainable management of Council's diverse strategic growth responsibilities. You will provide strategic leadership, drive continuous improvement, and offer expert advice to enhance the liveability and prosperity of our community.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide strategic leadership across the Growth Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement
- Lead the development, implementation and review of Council's strategic planning framework to support sustainable population growth and community outcomes
- Lead the development and implementation of Council's Economic Development and Tourism strategies
- Lead long-term planning for community, recreation, social and open space infrastructure to support current and future population needs
- Lead strategic water management, stormwater planning and integrated water management initiatives. This will include providing oversight of long-term water infrastructure planning and climate resilience strategies
- Lead the development of business cases, funding submissions and grant applications that support strategic growth initiatives
- Manage departmental budgets and resources to ensure efficient and effective service delivery

- Opportunity – 5-year Fulltime Contract

- Salary - Fulltime position - Competitive Package, $169,239 to $175,503 inclusive of Superannuation, Income Protection and Journey Insurance

About You
You are an exceptional strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence. Combining sound technical capability with strong leadership, communication and project delivery skills,
you can work collaboratively across Council, engage effectively with stakeholders and provide clear, evidence-based advice to support sustainable growth management decisions.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications, preferably in urban and regional planning, or in environmental science, economics or a related discipline
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience in strategically leading and managing an operational unit
- A current National Criminal History Record Check with no adverse findings
- Eligibility for membership to the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA)
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., Master of Business Administration)
- Strong familiarity with structure planning principles and complex land division delivery, from a planning, civil engineering or landscape perspective
- Understanding of the principles and modelling that underpins community infrastructure planning
- Current, unimpeded South Australia driver's licence
