Bistro and Functions Manager

We’re seeking a driven and experienced Bistro and Functions Manager with a passion for hospitality to join the team at The Lower Plenty Hotel.

This is a full-time role requiring availability across days, nights, weekends and public holidays, as is standard in the hospitality industry.

Nestled amidst the serene eucalyptus of Heidelberg, Lower Plenty Hotel has been a beloved destination since 1858, owned and operated by Hotel Leisure Management for over 40 years.

We are a busy fast paced venue with a bistro seating capacity of 300 plus. Our venue is a family orientated destination with a generous kid’s playground that can be boisterous during busy periods. Our function space has a beautiful back drop of eucalyptus trees and can accommodate up to 140 guests, and we love a party!

What’s required for the role

· Drive a warm, professional and guest-focused front-of-house culture

· Managing rosters, wage costs and reporting

· Maintain high standards across presentation, cleanliness and guest experience

· Lead daily floor and bar operations to ensure smooth, efficient service

· Being a visible, hands-on leader who can inspire the team and leads by example

· Work closely with the kitchen team on service flow,



menu execution and specials

· Supporting recruitment, onboarding and development of the FOH team

· Assisting with stock control, ordering

· Function planning, driving function bookings and events

· Full working rights in Australia

· Proven experience in a busy, high-volume bistro

· A passion for valuable food and genuine hospitality

· Leads a team with presence, communication and direction

· Confidence managing rosters, budgets and daily FOH operations

· A calm, organised and solutions-focused approach under pressure

· Someone who works collaboratively with chefs and management teams

· High attention to detail and consistency in service standards

· A team player who genuinely cares about the people around them
