About the Role
Finwell Support is seeking practical, community-focused professionals to join our Rural Financial Counselling team. We have one position available in the Warrnambool region and one in the Bendigo region, supporting primary producers, farming families, rural enterprises and small businesses experiencing financial hardship, business disruption, seasonal pressures, recovery challenges or uncertainty.
This role is ideal for someone with strong business, farm, finance or commercial experience who can work alongside clients, help them understand their options and support informed decision-making.
Qualified Financial Counsellors are encouraged to apply. We also welcome applicants with strong business, farm or financial backgrounds who are willing to undertake study and progress towards Financial Counsellor practice.
For suitable candidates, the role may commence within a financial capability scope, with support and a clear pathway towards becoming a qualified Financial Counsellor.

About Finwell Support
Finwell Support delivers financial counselling, financial capability and wellbeing services to farmers, small business owners and regional communities experiencing hardship, disruption, stress or uncertainty. We support clients to understand their financial position, explore practical options, access services and build long-term resilience. Services are delivered through office appointments, outreach, farm and business visits, phone and online support, community engagement and education activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide financial counselling and practical financial support to farmers and small business owners
- Help clients understand their financial position, options and next steps
- Prepare and review budgets, cashflows and financial information
- Assist with grants, concessions, hardship programs and government assistance
- Support recovery, transition and succession conversations within role scope
- Assist clients to engage with creditors, service providers and government agencies
- Provide advocacy and negotiation support where appropriately qualified
- Refer clients to specialist services when required
- Build relationships with local stakeholders and community organisations
- Participate in outreach activities, workshops, field days and community events
- Maintain accurate client records and reporting information
About You
You may already be a qualified Financial Counsellor or bring strong business, farming or financial expertise.
You will
- Understand financial information and explain it clearly
- Have strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Build trust with farmers and business owners
- Understand the impact of financial stress on individuals, families and businesses
- Work independently across a regional area
- Maintain professional boundaries and recognise when referrals are needed
- Be willing to undertake training and supervision if progressing towards Financial Counsellor practice
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma of Financial Counselling, or willingness to complete the qualification
- Experience in finance, agribusiness, banking, accounting, bookkeeping, farm business, small business, financial planning, business advisory, community services or related fields
- Strong financial literacy
- Understanding of rural communities and regional business challenges
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work autonomously and maintain accurate records
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel
- Residence within, or close to, the Warrnambool or Bendigo service area
