Media Adviser (Electorate Officer B)

The office of David Farley, MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Media Adviser (Electorate Officer B), based in the Electorate of Farrer in either Albury or Griffith, NSW.
Position Overview
This position will support the Member with public communications, media engagement and social media platforms strategy, ensuring messaging is clear, consistent and aligned with policy priorities, while building solid relationships with media stakeholders and enhancing and protecting the Member’s public reputation. The position will also provide additional support and advice to the Member on parliamentary matters. The role will involve frequent travel within the electorate and interstate as required – predominantly to Canberra – to assist the Member in carrying out parliamentary and electorate duties.
The Member is seeking an enthusiastic person with demonstrated experience in media, journalism, communications or political advisory roles, who works well under pressure, to join the team as a Media Adviser.
Work alongside David Farley, a respected agriculturist and international agribusiness leader committed to strengthening regional Australia, protecting Australian sovereignty and delivering real outcomes for families, farmers, and local industry. The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Draft and issue media releases and statements, speeches and other documents, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
- As primary liaison manage day to day media interactions, developing and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors and producers.
- Monitor media and emerging issues to provide rapid advice and manage sensitive communications.
- Develop and implement media and communications strategies, identifying opportunities to promote the policy agenda in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and implement a social media strategy, develop digital content and manage social media platforms.
- Monitor parliamentary business, ensuring the Member has access to briefings and speaking notes on contemporary issues.
- Irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in media, journalism, communications, or political advisory roles.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to tone and audience.
- Excellent understanding of the Australian media landscape.
- Excellent technical skills with media monitoring platforms, design and content creation, social media platforms, website and content management systems (CMS), and DSLR.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly developed research skills.
- Sound judgment and discretion.
- The ability to be flexible and demonstrate initiative.
- It is essential to the effective performance of the role that the candidate is engaged with and supportive of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation (PHON) policies, views and values.
Desirable:
- Experience working in Parliament, government, or political campaigns, or large corporations with high public engagement.
- Familiarity with policy development and legislative processes.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
- A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

- An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
